The 2011 GT is Daytona 500 Pace Car (and they're selling one TODAY)

DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2011 Ford Mustang GT Glass Roof Coupe will get a major dose of publicity as it serves as the official pace car for the 52nd Daytona 500 on February 14. The pace car also makes a high-profile appearance at the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, where it will cross the block on January 23.

Barrett-Jackson notes that buying a pace car before it hits the track has never happened before at this auction house. Proceeds from the car over MSRP will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Ford said in a statement.

The Mustang GT pace car gets a special Daytona 500 striped paint scheme, a Brembo brake package, Ford Racing suspension, strut tower brace and mufflers, unique 19-inch painted wheels, summer-only tires and a special interior that includes lit sill plates. Ford said it also carries an early VIN and will be among the first 2011 Mustang GT 5.0-liter V8s made available for sale to the public.

The new 5.0-liter V8 churns out 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

I am afraid my wallet wouldn't handle it. I can only hope it would handle a regular GT. I see dealer markups coming again.

They just sold it on Barrett Jackson for $300.000. Anything over MSRP went to Juvenil Diabetes Reasearch Foundation.

The mustang pace car will look good next to the camaro pace car. Looks like the mustang will be pacing on the 14th and the camaro on the 15th. Both Ford and Chevy make it sound like theirs is the only pace car.

how do they sell a 2011 when they're mid-year production on the 2010 ? It will still have a build date, and I'd guess it's a 2009 build date ? Or at least Jan 2010.
