Is the 302 too out of date? Obsolete? Should the sn95 guys bail?

Getting stupid now.

Really, I love my 302 and my sn95 not because it's able to be faster than today's cars....

I love my pushrod SN95 because it's got tradition that dates back to the first 302 and even today, our engines produce that wild, throw me around the road power that every guy dreams of owning.

The "smart" options of todays cars makes people rely too much on technology and enough on their own ability to drive the damn car.

LOL @ the smart guys in this thread. I guess there arent any fox body mustangs beatin up on new challengers/camaros/mustangs/vettes at the track huh?

Once you modify a car....theres no telling who will win. So we have to modify our cars to run their stock times...big deal. News flash...thats not the limit that we can modify our car.

Besides....take the best of both worlds. Our body with the LSX engine platform. CHAAAAAAAAA CHING!

Heres a thing,

When the Mod motor came out I gave it an eyeball. IIRC the physical dimensions were on par with the old FE. And mass wise they were on par with the old FE.

I had a 427 4V in a 68 wagon. It would skat and git. I would get 12 mpg more or less, Dad would get 17~19 open road. In a wagon.

So when I looked at the mod I wondered what that old 427 would have done with an OD trans instead of the C6. Then I wondered how well that would have worked in a light car like a Mustang. Hell, in a Crown Vic.

I've sort of looked at whats come out since the introduction of the Mod and I think of the FE with aluminum top end, full roller and EFI, and I find it real difficult to get real excited over the new stuff.

Not to say I don't see new technologies as interesting, not to say I don't appreciate new tech ... ever try warming up a carburetted small block in front of a RUG with 80-120 when it's -20f out? ... it's that I'm not going to get insecure when something new comes out.

Not everything new is superior, not everything old is obsolete.

:nice: I'm just stirring my e-pot. I bet there are roughly 2x more fast mustangs than there are camaros out there....I can't even tell you how many magazines there are commited to them. That and I never knocked foxes :flag:

VOTE FOR ME SN95 OTY!!!!!! :hail2:

My ex-bestfriend just made the hanky transfer and is giving up his stang's for a 99' SS that he plans on making a boosted 10 sec dd out of.

I don't understand him some times because he has a 87 notch with a turbo 347 with trickflow h/c/i and ran a low 10 and he still drives it on the street daily.

He also has a 05' GT with tons of small mods running high 11's and that is his dd.

Whats this world coming to when the mustang enthusiast is converting?

Thanks Hanky you spread the disease. :notnice:

Random, I know, but I am sick of my SVO with 2.3lT being faster then my GT plus it gets close to 29mpg on the highway. With just a few bolt ons the thing screamed. To compensate because I love the vert to death heads, an fcam and a turbo kit are in the very near future. Sorry to say but my 79 is getting a 5.4...

Faster or not I would be embarassed being seen in the svo. :hide:

No, not yet! Hanky hasn't made me hate my car yet...:nonono:

Isn't that a thing,

Someone can be perfectly happy with with something until they listen to others talk then that thing which suited them fine becomes somehow tarnished.

And those things that people are talking about don't need to matter.

In answer to the OP question :

I feel "old" with my 105K mile 95 Saphire Blue GT , but then again I bought it for 1/4th what it cost new, and was in great condition.

It's not as fast as a new one, but there are plenty of aftermarket companies that can fix that.

With the 2011 GT coming out, this is the first time I have ever wanted to buy a new GT. I feel the 2011 GT will bring down the value of all previous year GT models. Maybe I will be wrong tho.

So, with that said, it won't hurt my feelings as bad to slide my 512 BBF with my D1B procharger into my 95. ;)

a fews years back when i blew up my motor, i had to decide between getting a new stang vert and rebuilding. the new verts were about 30k at the time. i (obviously) decided to rebuild mine. i'm nowhere near the 30k i would have dropped on a new one. and i'm sure this car is a lot faster too.

If I did not swap motors a while back I might have considered getting a new GT500 and then modding the heck out of it (yes starting over), but I had already put way too much money into the current beast (and mostly time) to let it go:flag: With the stock block you can add a h/c/i and get some decent power. Will it run with the newer mustangs..for the most part and probably beat them. The newer stangs (especially 03-04 cobras) do come with more power and it is kind of a sucky deal when a snot nosed kid's parents buy him a cobra...adds a chip, pulley, exhaust and perhaps a ported blower and he is as fast as your h/c/i + blower car.

It all comes down the platform (motor) though. I mean how much power do you need? A n/a 302 with all the bolt-ons will get you 300rwhp or so. Add a blower and you probably have something in the neighborhood of 450rwhp if tuned correctly. Not a bad package for the street:nice:

If the new car blues are still getting to you and you have a h/c/i + blower car then go out and go big (someone already mentioned this already). I've seen nasty mean 347-363 with a standard blower kit (pullied) reaching 600+rwhp easy. At that point (and if it is a street car) main issues are traction so don't expect a fresh off the showroom floor mustang with minor boltons that is going to get close to you. Whats a new shelby cost these days..something like $60+K? Can you imagine what 1/3 of that amount of money can do for your 302?:nice:

So to the original question..should the sn95 guys bail..they can, but everyone has their reasons, but remember this more speed = the ability to dig deeper into your wallet. It doesn't matter if you go with a new stang or keep modding your current one...speed costs and from what I can see it is cheaper to mod what you have instead of going ahead and buying a new car.
