I have a 2010 Stang GT and I was thinking about trading it in to get a 5.0 stang...

Options:
-navigation w/satelite radio
-black striped leather seats.
-auto trans ( so tired of it I want a manual!!)
And everything you see on the outside in this picture:

One dealership offered 18,500 on my trade in! KBB trade in value =$24,600

The other offered 23,500...

I owe 27k on it...

I found a 2011 California Special 3.73 gears, Black leather, satin black tape stripe,19's for $32,500...

I'm not sure what to do! Am I better off just trying to sell it? Who would even buy it with the 5.0's out? Maybe a girl? lol

the value of cars automatically drop 30% on average the second there drivin off the lot 23k isnt to bad i suppose but i wuld try and sell private and keep the miles low if it comes to trade in although thats a beautiful car u got there its a shame its an auto (IMHO!)

It's going to be hard to justify a dealer giving you more for the trade-in because they can't move the new 2010s because of the 2011s. And because of that, they have to lower the price on the 2010s to move them and thus your 2010 and all of our previous Mustang's value drops a bit as well. I'd say the one dealer giving 23.5 for it is reasonable as I hear new 2010 GTs going for that much at dealers where I live.

Sorry man. That's just the facts of a short model year and one where many knew the 5.0 was coming back.

Lol @ its a shame that it's an automatic...

I wish it was a manual...when I get my 5.0 it'll be a manual for sure... It would be perfect to find an 11' same color and options (especially nav)..But it would be over my budget...

Thanks , I appreciate your input.

That does make sense ...Thanks :)

Why don't you just keep it for a couple more years and get the 2012 or 2013 which will likely be a better car than the 2011...and any faults with the new engine or accessories will be worked out by then.

Shame it's an automatic? Have you driven the Tremec 5spd? What a crap transmission...that's pretty-much the sole reason I dumped my 2008 for a 2010 GT was to replace that crunch box. At least the 2011's have the option of having a decent manual transmission.

Put it on AutoTrader, and CL. fixed amount of money on AT, free on CL. Worst thing that can happen, nothing. Best case, you sell it for 27k, and drive off in your new stang.

Whaddya got to lose, other than like $30 bucks?

Just enjoy what you have and wait for next year. I could buy a new 2011 5.0right now but I will patiently see what Ford has in store for next year. By next year or two the prices of these new 2011 5.0 and even GT500s will depreciate in value and be easier on the wallet.

IMO you are making a mistake taking a hit on your current car. You have a nice car. Just keep it and enjoy. Buy a supercharger if you really want more power, and go out and eat up 5.0's.
I bought a used fully loaded 10GT knowing about the 11's power. It's not that big of a deal. I had an 03 MachI that I supercharged and it put down 460rwhp. It was fun but I had no use for that much power. Don't get to caught up in the hp thing it ends up costing a lot of money.

I agree you always take a hit when you owe more than its worth but in reallity its not extreme If they offered you 23,500 for a car you owe 27,000 on, you would just be adding that extra 3500 to get a new 5.0..... and you dont have to come up with that 3500 out your pocket like you would with a supercharger... and like I said before, talk th 11 price down a couple grand and your only oweing a couple thousand thand you are now

As a sales consultant...$23,500 sounds about right. I just took one in for $24000, just like yours but a manual. It hurts, but you should see what kind of deal I could work for someone on 2010 GT.

Perfect example, friend of mine wanted a 2011 V6 (About $25k) but I ended up selling him a 2010 GT with a $60 less payment. Who would by a used 10 with a higher payment than a new one?

I agree tho, keep yours and save the money you would have rolled into the new car and buy a blower for it. You'll be happy. We sell plenty of those and they are just as fun.

Stangmole, my Tremec 5spd is fine. All because yours had problems and you didn't get it fixed under the TSB that Ford released does not make it a bad transmission. You like your Auto and thats good for you, thats why they offer both transmissions, to each their own.

I would just keep the 2010, unless the auto really bothers you that bad. Is it really worth going back into that much debt for a new 2011? They are sweet cars, no doubt about that, I want one bad to. I do think the car you have now is a pretty cool car to, I would just hold on to it for a little while and maybe sell it for a used 5.0 in a couple of years.

The 5.0 is a great machine but you don't need huge horse power numbers to have a fast mustang. Yes it is nice for bragging rights but there are plenty of fast mustangs out there. I agree with everyone else pick a style you like and go with it. If you need more power just add a blower. It is nice to have the latest and greatest but it is also nice not to have a car payment once it's paid for. I would love a new 5.0 but once a mustang is paid for you fall in love with it all over again.

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

I haven't been on.. I may just keep it for a while I guess.
Looks like they are coming out with new packages for stangs like the RTR package..pretty cool.
