17's or 18's

K, normally i HATE 18's on foxes, always have. Yet im kind of torn on 18" Saleens, some look good to me and some look meh. Now i know people are the same way with 17" Saleens. Here is my problem, all the manufacturers that carry the 17x9 36mm offset rims are out of stock for 60-90 days. And i want to drive my damn car already. But i can easily find 18x9's with a 36mm offset everywhere. So im asking what do you guys think would fit my car better. 17's or 18's?
Here are some 18's

here is a photochop of my car with 17's

Obvious reasons for 17's tires are much cheaper, i know they will fit excatly as my rims fit now, Downside, cant get them for quite some time.
Reasons for 18's I can get them now, Downsides, may have rubbing issues up front, tires are expensive, the rims are much heavier and may be too large for my car, whatchy'all think

Feel free to post pic of other cars with either 17's or 18's

ive got 17" saleens on mine, and they look a bit "off" compared to the 18's. it's one of the few that NEEDS to be a 18 to pull it off. that being said, are these for track wheels too? if not, a decent, long-lasting tire should make the $$ difference and have 0 effect on necessary weight.

I actually used your car to photoshop the wheels onto my car, only reason your wheels looked off was the 24mm offset when they really need to be a 36mm offset. Unless they were 36mm offset then yeah they look off.

That been said, these are not for track wheels, they are street wheels, my cobras are going to be track wheels and i can guarantee that the saleens with NT05's 275/40/18's are gonna be heavier than the cobras i currently have. Another concern i have with the rims being larger is not clearing the modifications i made to pull the fenders out to fit the 275's with the MM k-member and forward offset control arms.

18's.

What about the wheels you have now - cobras right?

are now track rims, after having to drop $1400 on new Hoosiers i dont want to be spending that kind of coin every 3 months, while i LOVE how my cobras look, i CANNOT find another set of them, M179's are near impossible to find and when you do people want twice what they cost new and are typically fubar'ed

I used to be a die hard 17's guy but I saw a local fox with 18" ugly wheels and liked the way the size looked. He had horrid "tuner" style wheels but they fit the well oh so nice so, I'm going with 18 FR500 hyperblack. Car is still on "for now" 17 bullits up fron and leftover 08 civic steel wheels in back, just to move her around as I build. :nice:

2 totally different rims, this thread is for saleens, im not a fan of 18's at all really

i have the same brakes as you if your running the m179 wheels. i use 05+ spec saleens on the rear and 99-04 on the front. the rears fit perfect with a 275 tire. my fenders are rolled and thats it.

they sit flush right at the lips. i actually have a tad more clearance now with the axle centered via the panhard.

95 rear axle?
Either way the rims HAVE to be 36mm all the way around, if i were to use a 24mm offset in the front then i'd really have clearance issues, remember with all the MM goodies the tires move forward about 2.5"

I'm not worried about the rear clearing, i'll be fine with that. Its the fronts that make or break the wheels
