ATTENTION: Owners of 2011 Mustangs with a shimmy/vibration in the car/steering

Update - out of respect I cannot mention any names of those involved but they are sending a factory technician from Detroit to my local dealer to evaluate my issue. I was told they will do whatever is necessary to resolve the issue.

I am sorry to say that they would not really discuss the other VINs affected by the same exact issue but I will post whatever my resolution is as soon as I have.

I would have to say not to good, 16 Mustangs out of how many have they built so far in 2011,the math is not on his side nor are they going to issue a TSB for 16 cars.

+1

If there were 50,000 GT's made (probably less, not sure of 2011 production stats), that would be .032% affected.

There are a few things being glossed over in these assumptions:

1) There have been only about 40k 2011 Mustangs sold (at most). They have not all been GTs, maybe half of those were.

2) You can assume that for every customer complaint, there are 4-10 times more customers that you haven't heard from yet.

3) Of the (assuming) 20K Mustang GTs that have been sold, how many of the owners have bothered to put their car in sport mode and drive it over 80mph? Maybe 1 in 20?

The new math using my assumptions - (16 people that Argenti got in touch with X 5 times as many who he didn't get ahold of) / (20000 sold X 1/20 who have tried this) = 8%.

My thinking exactly.

1) Historically ~30% of Mustangs produced are GT's vs V6. My GT build number is ~138,000. ~41,400 GTs built as of about June. Like I said I don't have the exact production figures for 2011.

2) I guess they must not have internet access because he didn't get too many replies considering he made a post on almost every Mustang site. But we'll just say it is 160. Lets just call it 500 and include known Mustang production of 138,000 (even though there are more). That is ~1/3 of 1% produced possibly affected. So 99.63 percent of Mustangs are free of this complaint.

Taking this guys random threads and claiming 8% of Mustangs may be affected seems to be a major assumption.

3) On his initial complaint on SVT performance he felt Sport Mode made it worse, but the shimmy was present in "default" mode.

Here they are.....keep in mind that the '11s didn't start dropping until April and I know there were still '10s being sold well into August.

September - 5,760

August - 5,570

July 2010 – 7,489

June 2010 – 8,974

May 2010 – 10,225

April 2010 – 5,145

Using the 30% estimate, there have only been around 13K 5.0s sold. But I would guess the number so far has been higher than average for the v8 cars.

Believe it or not, a majority of new Mustang owners are not on the forums.

Oh, I'm not saying I'm right, but I showed my math and it came out a long way off from 0.032%.

Fair enough. I'm guessing the OP has a balancing problem that the electronic steering isn't compensating for as well when in sport mode.

Actually those are sales figures, there is a significant difference between those and production numbers. I know more than 138,000 have been built based on my VIN production sequence number. Based on the sales stats above roughly 1/3 of the 2011's built have sold as of Sep 10.

Yes, good catch. I knew that in my head and typed something else. For this discussion, sales numbers tell us what is in consumer's hands and what our sample size is.

Wow... good solid statistics here. ha ha.

The OP threads are moot.

"I am going fing crazy...maybe I have the shimmy in my head"

Calling all 05 Owners - Page 2 - G35Driver

He has the same issue on almost every car he has owned.

There is a thread dedicated to him on SVTP in the smack down:

SVTPerformance

I guess it is lesson learned for those 2011 owners who sent this guy their VIN#.

He has complained of a shimmy and minor BS on numerous cars and forums.

Based on Argetni's history of vehicles with shimmy complaints, it is pretty easy to see the common denominator is the complainer.

There is no way in hell that many new vehicles purchased by one owner ALL have a shimmy issue (that can't be detected by anyone but the owner :rlaugh:).

He listed them in another thread.

2011 Mustang GT - bought new - shimmy day one - rattles - jingling sounds

2002 Corvette z06 - bought new - shimmy from day one, never resolved.

2003 Lexus RX300 - bought new- shimmy never resolved

2004 Lexus RX330 - bought new - shimmy after 2000 miles never resolved.

2005 Infiniti G35x -bought new - shimmy and brake issues - 3 sets of brakes in 35k

2007 Chrysler 300c SRT-8 - shimmy on first test drive before signing papers did not buy.

2003 VW 1.8T - shimmy

You can google Argetni (insert make) and read his BS complaints on everything he has owned.

He has issues way beyond the scope of his 2011 Mustang.

This guy is nuts!!!! He has made several threads about several cars (NEW CARS) he has issues with every car he gets. He was called out of all his threads and now says he will not reply on any more mustang sites.

+1

Anyone sending their VIN to a guy who claims to have experienced identical unresolved complaints on several cars from several manufacturers (none of which can be duplicated by dealerships) doesn't seem to make much sense.

Say you have an injured sheep that you wanted accompanied to the vet? Would you call the temp agency to specifically seek out the boy who cried wolf and lost six flocks in six different countries to do the job?

What are the odds of one person getting struck by lightning several times in several different countries. Or one person being bit by a different breed of venomous snake every time they've visited a different zoo.

Get real. :notnice:
:bs:

He has SEVERAL threads on different forums and since he was caught with all these threads claiming problems on 13 diffrent brand new cars, he is now asking admin to close all his threads. this one will probably be next.

I met with the field service engineer yesterday and a certified suspension and handling tech from Ford.

They both drove my car with me in it for 25 miles and both felt the vibration in both the steering wheel and the floor boards.

We then got back to the dealer and took out a brand new 2011 GT with 118 miles on the same 25 mile loop.

IT HAD THE EXACT SAME vibration.

Diagnoses

"normal vehicle characteristic"

So case closed on my car.
