Which clutch?

Buying a clutch for the power you're making now and worrying about what you need for the turbo if/when that happens.

I say that because you may also find that you'll need to upgrade your insput shaft. If you do, you'll be replacing at least the disk.

Either way, getting a monster clutch now isn't worth the $$ for plans that are 2 years or more down the road.

Well how much money do you want to spend? Obviously the best clutches out there are the twin disc setups, but they are stupid expensive. The King Cobra served me well until I mad 450 rwhp. I upgraded to Ram Powergrip HD which is rated to 600 HP. Im happy with it, there is a lot of chatter on cold easy take offs, but to me its worth it if its not gonna slip

If you get too good of a clutch, you'll blow your tranny. T5 behind 400hp with a sticky clutch is a grenade waiting to explode if you run any sticky tire.

And if you upgrade your trans you may need a different clutch anyway due to spline count.

There are other points of the driveline that would need upgrading for a turbo ahead of a clutch. I bet with a stock clutch, the trans would go before the clutch did

The stock clutch works well on most mild combos, the king is a nice clutch and Ram, Mcleod make a nice clutch also.like Mike stated a clutch that hits hard ( agressive) will wear on the tranny if it isn't up to the task.

Well I realize that the stock T5 isn't going to be a big fan of 400+ hp but I was kinda just planning on running it til it lets go and then going tranny shopping.

....Or you could not destroy it, drive easy, sell it to recoup some of your money and buy a better one. I'm amazed at how fast online classifieds move parts.

Chances are if you go tranny shopping you'll need to go clutch shopping as well. Thebeefier trans usually have a different spline count. You could potentially end up buying a good clutch twice...or at least the disk

So depending on your budget and how concrete your turbo plans are, it might be worth:

Trans shopping now
Purchasing a high(er) end clutch that will meet your needs later (Think Mcleod or Ram milti-disk)
Selling your current T5 after the install

or

Replacing your current clutch with OEM or equivalent (Think quality stock replacement)
and worry about the rest later.

For a replacement clutch, you really can go wrong anything from Centerforce, Ram, Ford Motorsport. I prefer to always replace the throw-out bearing with an OEM piece (I've had MUCH better luck with them surviving for the life of the clutch). If your cable is bad or very old, replace that piece with an OEM piece as well. You'll also need a new thrust bearing. Install a roller bearing instead of replacing it the copper bushing (if that applies to you).

This is true but also a really agressive clutch install now will wear out a T5 while you are waiting to do the turbo, you won't have to worry about the 400hp later. If you are in need of a clutch now to get you by then just throw in a quality stock kit(like mentioned) and wait until the turbo project to address the needs, then do like SSeater suggested and sell yours after.
