New here, looking to buy a Mustang convertible and seeking advice. Which would be a better way to, a 94-95 GT or a newer 99-02 model. Comparing with both models having similar miles and condition. Not looking to build a monster car just a few light mods to have some fun with. Looking to spend $5-$7000. Also want a 5 speed car. I have owned in the past a 72 Mach I 351CJ,4speed car for 11 years, a 86 GT Convertible and a 96 GT convertible. Been away from Mustangs for a few years and wanting to have some fun again. I know I'm in the 4.6 section so you guys might be partial but Thanks in advance for any advice.

Will not be a daily driver. A few days a week to work and the weekend drive with the top down trips. Basically a toy, probably going to replace my motorcycle. Also what is the difference between the 99-01 and the 02-03 models engine wise?

The coolant crossover in the intake manifold was improved. I believe the crossover was switched to aluminum from plastic so they would not crack as easily.

Im sorry but with what you just mentioned, why would a 94-95 car even be in the discussion? There's no comparison between the two cars. 99-04 all the way.

I believe alot of the changes actually took place midyear in '01 so some of them got the better intake. Also the later years have the 3650 instead of the T45's. I'm not quite sure about when this change took place but I think its right around that time as well. I know my 02 has the 3650 in it. Plus to me personally I do not like the non scoop hood which is commonplace on the 99 and 00's for sure.

99-00 are from the Windsor plant 01-04 are from the Romeo plant.
Very minor differences. The already mentioned coolant crossover, flywheel has 2 more bolt holes so I'm guess the crankshaft maybe different as well, maybe an extra drain plug, an extra spot for an aftermarket oil pressure sender. The interior has minor differences, the double din versus the single din radio, maybe the mach 1000 radio system. Really depends on what side of the country your gt was being sold i.e. some Gts have 6 catalytic converters some have four, some dealerships order them differently w/different packages. Oh I'm thinking the valve cover bolts are different as well, 11 for the 99-00 Gt's.
Maybe the spoilers as well, again different packages.

Mostly considering the different engine designs. The 5.0 is not as high tec (easier to work on) vs. 4.6 being harder to work on (costly).

my 2001 convert has the 3650 tranny. it also came with 4 cats not 6. but i know soon to come i will be replacing the intake, because it has the plastic thermo cover. i still to this day dont know what style water pump pully i have lol i did not check that out yet. but the door tag says june so i think that would make it mid-2001.

harder, but still really easy to work on. My vote is for the 99-04 stang. The 94-95 is going to have more miles and might need more parts/ work to get it running right. The 99-04 stangs are solid, have more hp, and can be had for <10k.

More specifically I would look at the 01-04 GT. Or a 99,01 cobra :)

99-04, Please!

I'm a good person to ask, because I've owned both (a '94 GT 5spd and an '02 GT 5spd, both bone stock). I can't even begin to describe how much nicer and faster my '02 is than my '94 was. My '94 had a lot of knocks and pings, and was slow, slow, slow. The '02 has always run smoothly, and although slow by '11 5.0 standards, is really fast compared to the '94.
