ok i want to go mass air on my 88 2.3
wasa told to get a a9l computer becasue it was the fastest one they make but after reading people use the la3 i believe, so what one do i do?

With some well documented trickery, the la3 will work.
If there is anyone running an a9l, then I haven't seen it documented...
But, I have been looking into the 94-95 ecu's... Which are actually a faster processor than the a9* series
One of the mods on eectuning has used one for a v6 application.

woah, isn't A9L for the 5.0? It is an excellent tune and computer for the 5.0, but won't even come close to working on your 2.3.

The LA3 is a 2.3 turbo computer, so yes, it would work but it won't have an ideal NA tune. I ran one on my NA 2.3 for several years before going turbo, and got along ok. It still isn't a proper tune, but there are more options to tune it (tweecer, quarter horse, ect). Also, the turbo computer uses a VAM (basically a door in the airflow path) instead of a standard MAF which would be a hot wire. The VAM will add restriction.

You might want to consider a 91-93 mustang ranger computer, but you'll have to do some rewiring and playing around with the timing arrangement to make it work. Honestly, way more trouble than it is worth

Anyway, why do you need mass air? It really isn't going to add a bunch of magic power or driveability.

Any ecu other than the 91-93 Mustang ecu is going to require a tune. However, you will need to convert ignition systems as well... probably not too difficult, but more effort than I wanted to make...
I'm not sure if the 91-93 2.3 ecu's fired sequentially of batch?

I mentioned the A9L, because it has been discussed on the boards, and is already equipped for MAF as well as sequential injector firing. Yes, a chip would be required...

The 94-95 Mustang ecu's are also MAF and SEFI equipped. They are now just as well supported for tuning options as the A9L. The most common catch code is T4M0, but there are others... It looks like I will be getting a T4M0 tomorrow to start working it into my 2.3

Using either of these v8 ecu's will be something very few others have done... if anyone has even done it...
There are v6 vehicles running with the v8 ecu's though.

Using an LA3 would work as well. It is well defined by the tuning guys, and can be converted to MAF.
I ran my n/a 2.3 with an LA3 MAF conversion for several months before I parked it. If you are willing to take the time to tune it, it can be done.

Of all the options I've presented the best understood and best documented is easily the LA3 conversion. It still isn't for the week of heart though, but if I can do it... LOL

ok so get a la3 computer but when i go mass air the computer will be chipped so would it work with a9l? and what is the 95 computers?
Running the LA3 on an n/a car will require a tune.
Moates QuarterHorse with the Binary Editor software is probably the most cost effective way to go.
Converting the LA3 to MAF will require additional tuning, but as I said... that has been fairly well documented...
