smoke coming from under car

I changed my transmission fluid for the first time and I tightened the drain and fill plugs as tight as possible.I drove the car around and looked under it for leaks. I don't see any leaks but I do see a little bit of smoke, or steam coming from the bottom of the car, near the transmission and the catalytic converters.

Is this normal because I never really looked under the car after driving it hard. Until after I changed the transmission fluid?

It is likely that you dripped some transmission fluid on the exhaust while draining the trans. When the exhaust got hot, it starts burning the fluid off and that can take a while depending on how hot the exhaust gets there. Wait for another 20-30 miles of hot driving and recheck.

Thank you. That makes sense because I also made a mess of transmission luid while refilling it. Because I was filling it through the fill plug with a siphion instead of removing the shifter and filling from there.

+1 to what bhuff said. I changed mine last weekend but mine managed to leak on the H-pipe when it was draining and not during filling. It should just be the oil burning off the pipe.
