Skip shift question...possibility?

That's a pretty strange feature for a car that people typically buy to drive hard. I'd never heard of it until I read it here. I test drove an '11 GT Premium and everything seemed smooth and normal just putting around and then like unleashing demons when I stomped on it and broke the tires loose going in to 2nd and 3rd. :D

I own a 2012 GT with the 3.73:1 rear end. There is no skip shift that disallows going to 2nd gear from 1st gear. What does happen, on the information display, it shows a display that reads "1 to 4 shift for fuel econ". Sometimes I do it, other times I ignore it.

I have not experenced this feature yet so wondering if it appears on any info screen dispaly or a specific one?

You may just not be shifting in the way that it would pick up, I think mine lights up around 2500 RPM in first or somewhere close to that.

Hi Satin Silver GT,

When the requirements for Skip Shift are met, it will display 1→4 SHIFT FOR FUEL ECONOMY on the instrument cluster message center. As LAVAgt2012 said, your shifting patterns may not be triggering it. You can view Skip Shift information on page 222 of the Owner Guide. Have a great afternoon!

Exactly! That's why I didn't "get it"! Why do you need a nanny tranny? Just drive the d@mn thing 1st to 4th, make the mileage claim with an * and then a footnote saying *if driven easy etc.... Why put in one more gadget that could break? Skip shift striking at anytime would be a pita!!! Thanks for the clarity mbuckcoyot!
You don't need a "nanny tranny" Ford needs it. As absurd as a feature like this is on a performance car it does increase the EPA estimated MPG and so it helps Ford with the gov't mandated corporate average fuel economy. Even if it increase gas mileage by 1/2 mpg multiply that by all the 6spd Mustangs sold and it has an impact. Plus I'm sure that it doesn't hurt to be able to advertise the Mustang as having the best in class fuel economy.

You're absolutely correct Svtpilot. Funny how EPA can post Fuel Economy Estimates on the window sticker with the claim that "your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle" but Ford has to include a feature to make the claim! Gov't...do as we say, not as we do :)
