Didn't read the rest of the posts in this thread, but I'll say this. For a Cobra (or any other car owner) to look down on another for the type of car they drive is a douche move. IMO, ones attitude and the image they present while owning said car is what earns them the criticism. In that same respect....for an owner of a GT to go spouting off at the mouth because they added a set of gears and a CAI to their GT and thinks it puts them in the same league as a Snake makes them look every bit as stupid. I’ve noticed the biggest GT vs. Cobra animosity seems to be between the New Edge guys.
There is no denying it though. The Cobra's were better cars all the way across the board and by all definitions, the GT is a "lesser model". And where the '03-'04 models are concerned, the difference is considerably more so. To attempt to put a GT on an even keel with the later snakes is no small feat. As big a snobs as many claim Cobra owners are, I see just as many GT guys with the same old narrow minded perspective that think as long as they bolt on enough parts to beat a Cobra in a straight line...then they consider it a victory. Guess what fellas....it ain't. There's so much more to an '03-'04 Cobra than just their strait line acceleration. To sink the kind of parts into a GT that it would take to meet or beat an ’03-‘04 Cobra in all performance categories and match it’s robust demeanor to boot, you’re going to find yourself shelling out considerably more money over all and end up with a car that’s worth far less money in the end.
Cobra guys. Enjoy your ride. You’re top of the heap in the Mustang world for that year and you bought yourself a namesake as well as a nice vehicle, but remember….you’ll still get walked around the track by a 15-year-old Corvette and could very well end up staring at the taillights of a stock ’11-up GT that some teenage girls father bought her as a high school graduation present.....so don’t get too cocky.
GT guys….build your car because you like to do it and don't mind making a little compromise up front in order to build it the way you want to later on. Stick to being the envy and the benchmark of the gold plated bicycle chain, low pant, sideways hat wearing punk kids found in the import scene. Don't do it because you feel like you’ve got something to prove to a fellow Mustang owner who was fortunate enough be be able to afford the premium sticker comanded for a Cobra right off the hop and who probably couldn’t care less about you or your car in the first place. All it’s going to do is leave you frustrated and broke!
