Experiences at a couple local performance shops

As stated in a previous thread, I had to replace my rear end. I was getting super slammed at work and I thought that I would save some time and take my rear end and all of my parts to a local performance shop to have my ring, pinion, and new differential set up to save me some time. I dropped it off and was told that I would have it back next day.

Sweet! I thought to myself, back on the road in no time. 2 weeks later my car is still on my lift at the shop. Every time I would call and ask about the progress, it was; well, you need this, you need that, or, they even had the balls to tell me that a bigger more profitable job came in and that mine was being put on the back burner. They even went as far as to tell me that my simple ring and pinion job was being such a pain in the ass that it was cutting into their beer drinking time after work.

I went out of my way to get these guys everything that they needed like 5 minutes ago, every time they said they would cal me back they never did, the owner of the company told me yesterday one the phone; "You own your won shop, you know how it is, if you have a problem with it then, come pick your stuff up and do it yourself." I was blown away. I have fired people for talking to customers like that!

I asked for all my old parts back and they scrapped them all. I had to get new ABS exciter rings (from FORD) pressed onto my new axles and they broke one and told me "Uhhh, sorry bro, but we think that's the wrong one."

Now, obviously, I am definitely not going back there ever again. Especially as another small business owner, I was actually hurt at the way I was treated more so at the time frame of the job. This company will remain nameless because I don't want to be that guy that pisses everyone off around my area.

Now, on the other hand, I had to get new axles and found some at Brothers Performance in Deland, FL. I drove the hour to get there and when I did, everyone was super nice, helpful and outgoing. Their showroom was clean and organized. Now, there was some confusion over the ABS rings for the axles that I bought so, Ben at the front desk out of no where asked how much I payed for them at Ford. So, I told him and, immediately without hesitation, he offered me a store credit for the full amount of what I payed for the ABS rings and, I didn't even buy them there! He said because their website had a typo and I may have had the wrong part causing it to break. He even called Superior Axles and got the info I needed and called me back within minutes.

Lastly, I called around to a couple other shops in Orlando and came across Horsepower sales in downtown Orlando. These guys called me like 5 times through out the day (before I found the axles at Brothers) trying to find me new axles, used axles, anything to help get me back on the road. The owner called me, invited me to the shop to show me around and even told me that he would be there late to do a few dyno runs and to bring my axles and new rings by and he'd press em on for me.

So, overall my day started out pretty crappy but, turned out ok. I found 2 new places that I can use through my business and hopefully, I will be back on the road today.

Sorry for the long post but, I needed to rant. Hopefully someone else in the Central Florida area will read this and save themselves the headache that I went through with that shop. I just can't believe that people can have a successful business running it that way.

Sucks to hear man..I've found a couple in the Tampa area's that are super reliable and others that overcharge or are just plain shady. If you ever need stuff done in a pinch there is a shop in Hudson who has done everything to my car that I don't have the tools for or time for that matter and he is super inexpensive and does perfect work.

Well I'm glad you found some reputable folks, but I would be on the phone with the BBB regarding the first shop. I wouldn't just sit there and let other people fall into their BS trap. I'd throw their name out every forum solely to save others time and money by not going there to begin with. Sounds like a damn circus and they don't deserve anymore customers.

The thing is, I would have done it myself in my own shop but, I figured that I was so back logged with work that I would expedite the process and sublet my own work to be able to take care of my customers...big burn for me. I did make a scene in their store. In a polite, professional manner, of course. I was able to make about 3 people leave from the show room and one guy asked for his car back. I am going to write a certified letter to the owner and send a copy of it to all applicable boards/agencies.

Good plan :nice: Nice work on diverting potential customers haha

Well, after making all the right calls and letters sent out, I will just sit back and see what happens.

BTW, I discovered that this shop has a nasty habit of telling you that your stock parts are bad and either try and sell you used stuff that they have laying around that has been "reconditioned" or, they pressure you to get a replacement to them ASAP. What they are doing with the old stock parts is telling the customer that their old parts have already been scrapped and sent to the metal recyclers when, in actuality, the parts are sitting in the back waiting to be sold to the next unsuspecting customer.

When I was at the shop picking up my rear end I asked if I could see my old rear end housing They showed me a rear end housing that was not mine. I called them on it and they were like "oh, yeah, you are right."

They brought me a another one, which was my old one. I couldn't see what they were talking about in how the housing was bad but, damn, that thing sure was clean and spotless! Anyways, I left questioning the "mix up" and decided to call back and ask to have my old one back so i could take it back to my shop and throw it in my scrap metal bin (and to inspect it closer myself). I was told that the part had already been sent out w/ the scrap metal. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.....

Anyways, besides being over charged a MUCH higher price than what I was quoted on the phone due to all the shop supplies, service fees, and hidden costs they conveniently omit when they quote you, they are scamming used parts off of cars (their show room is full of them!) that they can resell to customers as "reconditioned" parts or barely used take offs because they customer "wanted to go a different direction" with their car.

And people wonder why the car repair business has such a bad rap and reputation. This saddens me...oh well.
Anyways, I guess I'm done with this thread and rant. As I said before, I am not going to name names but, the shop has been around forever and is in downtown Orlando very close to the I4 and Kaley exit. That should be enough to figure it out if you are clever enough ;) and me not having to mention the place specifically. I hope I have been able to prevent one of your guys getting burned like me.

There is a speed shop in Eustis I go to. They do great work, and I had my car back in no time, every time I took it in. They replaced my headers and the A/C line ruptured due to the install. They had a new line overnighted and put it on the same day.

American Motorsports was sold to Murray's and isn't what it used to be.
I go to USA Motorsports (turbosupercharged.com). They are at 2750 Dillard Rd. Eustis, FL 32726. Bob owns the shop and Blake runs it. Great groups of guys there. If they don't have what you need, it is only a day shipping away from being at the shop, unless of course the manufacturer says otherwise. They also have great prices. Go see Bob and tell him Anthony sent you. He will take care of you. You can also pm me and let me know when you are going to go out, and I will call him and let him know.

I was blown away too. I have been going to them for years and have always had god luck there. I don't know why I was treated the way I was there. Maybe I was just having a bad few days. Oh well, it's over and done with, the car is back on the road and no problems from the work that they did do.
