Possible Project when I get Home..

I have a 95 gt 306, with intake and few other mods. The Project im looking at doing is i want to get rid of the auto tranny i have even though it has no issues (knock on wood) i want to put a 5 speed in. My question since new to doing it myself is what all will i need to complete the project and around how much am i looking money wise. Also is this something i can do myself or should i just get someone to do it for me, i perfer to do as much as possible since it is my baby.

Thanks everyone

I did it myself...yrs ago. Basic handtools, jack and jackstands...flatbacked it in my driveway. Hardest part was moving the Auto out of the way...it was heavy.

I got a swap "kit" from Mustang Parts Salvage...the place in Georgia...not sure if they're still open....think everything was about 1500 dollars. Just thumbin through the magazines the other day...AMP has the same kit for ~1800. Having said that, you can probably get everything.... the big parts, out of a junkyard/classifieds...probably cheaper. Search around, not a bad time to do the aluminum driveshaft, nice shifter, decent clutch etc. The "kits" will send you stock stuff.

Search around on here, several times this has been asked...you may find some good info. For what its worth, I did my swap before Stangnet existed, did not have this resource. I used an article from MM&FF...and a Haynes manual...remove auto trans and instal clutch/manual trans. If you are semi mechanically inclined...you can do this yourself...nothing cosmic about it. Like I said, hardest part was moving the auto out of the way. Now, if you have some wrench bending friends or a helpful uncle...a case of beer and a pizza go a long way....

Good Luck...search around, couple of us have done it if you need specifics

thanks Brian ill continue to look around. i just have to figure out everything i need in the "kit". i know i need the pedals, clutch, trany, shifter, boot, i think flywheel, clutch cables but not sure what else i might need. i'll deff. be offering beer and grilling out to get some help for this one for sure.

Mustang Parts Specialties is still open, and they still have the kit listed on their website. If you can't find a donor car, this is definately the way to go. I've been dealing with them for about 15 years, and they are super friendly. They piece those kits together from wrecked Mustangs, which is actually good, because you get all original Ford parts. It will take a long time to piece together everything you need individually, and in all honesty it will probably cost more that what MPS is charging.

MPS sent me a driveshaft, crossmember, 5 spd wiring harness, and a computer. If you go with them, reccommend a new clutch cable...Maximum Motorsports sells a Ford replacement...MPS will pack up a used cable with X amount of miles/engagements on it....I replaced mine shortly after...felt like hydro clutch as opposed to the old cable I initially installed...

It had everything to remove the old, install the new, yes everything, very thorough. If you go the scrounging route, you may be able to use the auto driveshaft, I don't know the specifics but do rememebr the two were physically different. The computer, I've heard you can use a tuner to remove the auto settings and make it work with a 5-spd. I actually used the auto 'puter for a few days aftwe I got done the wrenching, frankly because I didn't know where the computer was on these cars (under the passenger kick panel)...it worked but wasn't right, swapped em, all was well. Wiring harness, not a full chassis harnes, just a trans harness, plugged in under the hood routed right to the trans itself. Think it was the difference in reverse lights speedometer etc, not a big deal. Don't remeber the x-memebr difference, I just swapped them. They're some of the things that MIGHT be able to be recycled...my on;y source for that is reading on here....

FYI, I had to cut about 1/2 of metal off the forward edge of the trans tunnel, just enough to make the shifter fit...did it with a Dremel. Also, there is a cable in the steering column, I think it was the equivalent of a nuetral start switch....but it had to be zipped tied out of the way....kinda cloudy on all the details...think it was 99 when I did it.....

Afghanistan huh...lovely this time of year......

Hef5.0weisen Thanks for the info man, yeah weather here is :notnice: its getting cold and rain season is starting to kick it. So alot of my "units" air assaults are getting nixed due to weather. i read on your signature you have a kenne bell is your car a 5.0? and if so how much gains did u see with it.

Weathered out in the 'Stan....that's when you get good at COD .

As for the KB...I'm not a drag strip go'er, never seen a dyno...but stop light to stop light is fun. Saw a loss as far as tire longetivity....

If you're considering a blower, I'd recommend driving a buddy's car that has a KB and another with a diff't blower, like the centrifugal type blower. They're both cool/fun, just different.

I have a bunch fo go fast parts on the shelf in my garage....I just spent/spend too much time in sandy/mountainous countries to ever get a chance to bolt it all on...but, I do have a 3 day weekend coming......stay safe, watch out for the AK toting mooj. Most of the stuff I've aquired, to include my KB was after deployment presents to myself....

Same here. Every deployment I set aside about 2500 to spend on one of my stangs. This deployment got me my KB, rebuilt engine with GT40s and rims. I went over my budget this time though. Spent my leave working straight through on my car to get it done. I love the KB, it is a torque monster though and has really bad heat soak so meth injection should be on your list...

well i bought another car that is a 5 speed and hows some basic stuff done to it, now i have questions regards 94 5.0 engine whats some good basic engine mods i can do myself i dont no heads or headwork or how to install heads at all...im an idiot when it comes to that part so what bolt ons can i do to bring the hp up.

the auto was a car i put money down on for the guy to hold for me and my wife went test drove it and my friend whos a mechanic stopped by and test drove it also and checked it out and the cars tranny was dripping fluid and he said the engine was knocking so we got our money back from the guy and picked up a 94 gt heres the link to the car i just bought 1994 Mustang GT *CLEAN* so now i have to do some engine work to it..
