Build Thread Want To Blow 5 Years And $50k On A Foxbody? Step By Step Instructions Inside!

Who says being ANAL is a bad thing. I've seen really nice smoothed engine bays and it looks like yours will be an equal to the mega-amazing jobs that have been done in the past. I don't have to tell you "good work" again though, do I?
Seeing that you have stepped up to the "has everyone beat" status, means that somehow I lost it.

Good thing they hand those out each year. Also a good thing there are quite a few "Judges" handing out the awards.

Nobody will ever take your title Mike. This engine bay work is kid's stuff compared to the ridiculous amount of body modifications you have done to your car. Nobody has done, or probably ever will do what you have done to that 89. I'm anal, but I would never have the patience to craft all those parts out of metal. The engine bay is forgiving, and it doesn't have to be perfect right from the start, but that body work does. I still don't even know how you managed to keep everything symmetrical

Shhhh... I wanna see if he buys the booger in the hair thing first. :O_o:

Hahaha..... I hear ya .....I worked at a bodyshop for a few years when I was a kid - it was my 'calling' .....(except the welding part - which I hated) - I'd be a body-man today if I wasn't an idiot and got myself in deep deep debt for school - spent alot of $ to learn how drink every nite -

being a body man right now sucks, insurance companies are ruining the industry

That's what my painter was telling me. He does a lot of custom work, but the collision work is getting tighter and tighter because of insurance. None of the companies want to payout to get things fixed the right way.

It's not. To your eye it all looks good, but get a tape measure out and things don't "measure up" exactly. Considering that each corner was built w/o the benefit of a template must mean that I must be either really lucky, or really good at guessing.:O_o:

I don't have any hair,....I have'nt had any since my 1st round of Chemo.:nonono:

Liar  If that were true, I'd have been calling you TIMEhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Yeah, but you're still wondering if I may be serious,......There is the selling the car thing,....to a few, that might cause one to question:
"Now why is he doing that all of a sudden after all that work"?

Now I know what you're thinking,.....is he pulling my leg, or is he for real?.....
To tell you the truth, depending on what day it is, I kinda lose track of it myself.
But since this is coming from me, and the reality of the situation could blow you head clean off,...I guess you you gotta ask yourself:
"Do I feel lucky"?

Well do ya,........PUNK?

...and here I thought you knew me a little better than that. :nonono: I don't have the attention span required to go through all of the steps that you've listed above. What's more, is that even if I did, I don't possess sufficient tact or diplomacy to do anything other than ride my bull through the china shop and begin calling you TIMEhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :D

Oh... Shiney!
:leaving:

While Mike and Noobz settle their dispute, I figured I'd ask everyone where they would relocate their ignition coil if they could pick any spot to put it.

I purchased one of these:

Now, I just need to figure out where to drill to mount it. My ignition box will be on the back side of the driver fender apron, essentially where the washer tank used to be. I guess it would make sense to put the coil somewhere in that are too. Any ideas regarding optimal coil placement?

I will also be relocating my TFI to the cabin somewhere to get it out of the heat of the engine bay. I have a shielded harness and heat sink all ready to go!

I saw a really nice setup once where a guy custom made a holder for his EEC, Tuner, and Ignition Box, next to the passenger side kick panel. Made it pretty convenient to pull/install harnesses. Looked good too.

If you put the box inside the fender, wouldn't it make it a pain to adjust retard and rev limiters?

I mounted my coil to the firewall, but now that I see that, I may rethink that. Where did you get that?

I do like the kick panel idea. Putting the ingnition box inside of there won't be an issue. I control all my timing and rev limiters through the PMS anyway. My only issue is with the coil, I prefer to get it out of the engine bay, and I'd like to hide the coil wire the best I can, but I'm not sure how long is too long for a coil wire. More length = more resistance.

Hoopty, I got mine from Amazon. I'm a Prime member, so it shipped for free. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029JKGE/ref=oh_details_o05_s01_i00

My ignition is behind the passenger side kick, where the old ecm used to be. A real pain in the ass. When the dash is out, it all looks like a good place for it to be, until the dash, (and the heater plenum) are back in place. Now what looked like it would fit w/o any problem, is so far up in the obscurity of the under dash "Batcave" I pray I'll never need to get at any of the wires........(Again):nonono:

As for the coil wire pass through,...I've personally always hated the 50 mile long coil wire that's associated w/ it's use. The thing is really meant for a sorry assed SBC where the coil can be located in the middle of the firewall, directly behind the distributor, and enable the use of a short, stubby, coil wire. Directly the polar opposite of how it works w/ a SBF.

Small Block Chevy Motors Are Gay.

It looks as if I will be required to sell this 331 and get myself a Chevy motor to make my firewall adapter work.

I have seen some put this adapter on their strut tower right where the stock coil location would be. That gets the coil into the fenderwell without much of an extension needed. I may wind up going that route. Not going to drill any holes now though incase I wind up changing my mind down the road when everything is together.

Wait until after it's all painted,...the liklihood of walking a bit across beautiful, glossy paint is so small,...I'd drill an extra few holes just to give myself a few different mount locations.

Whats all the hub-bub about anyway?... If you didn't have an engine that was designed right after the wheel, you'd have coil "packs" directly mounted on each plug,...effectively putting the whole "how long is too long" coil wire argument right to bed.:nice:

W/O any damn milk and cookies too.:fuss:
