I'd like to begin with apologizing, I'm new to this site and its urgent so I post where I thought I was supposed too.

I have a 1998 mustang gt. I recently went to shut my car off and pulled the key out of the ignition but the car continued to stay running. It is now stuck in the on position. I had to unplug the battery to shut the car off. The car is equipped with transponder keys. I bought a new ignition cylinder without the transponder keys, came with a new set without the chip, put it in and the car cranked but would not start. The theft light blinked the entire time. The entire time the new tumbler was in, I would turn it off but the car stayed in the on position (check engine light dash lights on including radio, as if the key was still in). Basically I'm wondering what I should do, buy another new ignition that comes with new transponder keys and or I'm thinking about hot wiring it somehow as a temporary fix but I'm not sure how to bipass the actual transponder "theft" portion.

The key cylinder and ignition switch are two separate parts, with a mechanical linkage between them. Since you can operate the starter with the key, I think your mechanical linkage is OK. I would go back to the original key cylinder and instead replace the ignition switch. The switch connector is retained by a bolt, and the switch assembly with 2 screws.
