H/C/I or Stroker??

My question to you. Have you ever used a relatively recent set of procomps? Until you have your comments on these heads are not useful. I had a set on my car and they worked great and were much better quality than people like you said they were. So until you have used a recent casting from procomp, you should just leave your opinion to yourself.. I saved prob 500$ by going with these heads and they made over 300 hp at the wheels.

Keep my opinion to myself? lol.
Little bit aggressive to make a demand on what someone else is to do isn't it?
Good luck with your parts, you keep suggesting junk and i'll keep suggesting economizing with higher quality. I'm ok with that.

Fortunately for me, with friends in the business, i don't need to be the test dummy, I've seen pro comps enough in the past to know to never risk it.
Maybe they are better now, maybe they are not, but when a couple hundred more buys a quality known product, why risk it?

Sorry man, but what makes your opinion any more legitmate than his? I too have seen ProComp head castings in person (a band new set at the Columbus Super Swap this past November actually) and have to say...full of casting flash and poor machine work.

Not all aluminum heads are created equal. 2000xp8 is not the first to have a less than stellar opinion on these heads and for good reason. Just because you had good luck with yours, doesn't automatically invalidate all of the people that went through a nightmare and hundreds of dollars trying to get theirs to run right.

Chill out man. We're each going to recommend what we like. And it's not always going to mirror the other guys set up. No reason to get testy.

My opinion on these heads is legitimate because I have used them....did you miss that part? He has heard of people using them. It doesn't matter. You buy what you want I will buy what I want.. To each is own. Sorry for upsetting you guys.

Yes....I got the part where you used them. That's why I said "just because you had good luck with yours". And actually...in refference to him having "heard of poeple using them".....he actually said nothing of the sort?

In any case...bad news travels fast. They aren't priced the way they are, or get the rep they did because they're a high quality head. I don't doubt your claim that they worked well for you, but you shouldn't be so eager to jump donw someones throat when they've got a different opinion on the matter, especially knowing the rep they have for ill quality.

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or something?

You didn't upset me, i'm more amused by it than anything.

I by no means am on an unlimited budget.
Difference is i have the patience to acquire parts over a period of time. Couple dollars here and there and before you know it, you have compiled a good list of quality items that are low risk.

They worked for you, fair enough, from what i've personally been seen and have been told at the machine shop, i just wouldn't risk it. Nobody really knows how long misaligned valves, springs and guides are going to last.
Peace of mind IMO is easily worth a couple hundred bucks.

I'm a risk/reward type of guy, risking $700 to save $200-$300, doesn't work for me.

The complete heads I have heard not to buy, I don't know anything about a complete set, so I cannot comment on that. I bought mine bare castings and took them to a shop. 800$ after all said and done with good springs and valves. I know several people that have done the same with good results.. Normally I would not buy something like this but I personally know people that have had good results. I'm sure procomps quality was never as good as it is now. China has had to bring quality up in the past couple of years because they are starting to charge more for their products. I have seen this first hand at work. We order tooling from china all the time because its cheaper. The quality of their work has gone up in the last couple of years, but so have their prices. I am not really one to wait for a sale to buy something. Kind of impatient you could say. So yeah I could have waited for a 1,000$ set of heads. But most likely wasn't gonna happen. So a 500$ savings was good enough for me to take a chance. And it worked out for me.

Out of the box kmj's when they get the heads they put ALL NEW springs valves retainers lochs in the bare castings all for 700 dollars. . And they flow better than gt40x heads.
Are you sure of this? So they get the bare castings and assemble them with their own parts correct?
I was talking a friend of mine here in the county, who has an unmeasurable amount of knowledge on these cars, and he said as well that in the past that ProComp didnt do a very good job on craftsmanship. But, in recent years he said that they have came a long way. And yes, hes had personal experiences with them. He recommended them actually.

Give them a call last I talked to them they only had one set of heads ever returned with issues. My dad ran them with very good results out of the box. He talked to them before ordering his set said they get bare castings and clean em up then put in new valvetrain. You can get em bare too for a really sweet price. 685 assembled. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

Your one experience with one set of heads is hardly representative of everyone's experience with ProComps, new or old. Gauging one opinion's validity against another using anecdotal evidence from a single situation is no basis for an argument. Actually, opinions are no basis for an argument. Nothing against you specifically, I'm just pointing that out.

More to the point, put my vote down for H/C/I first and stroker later or both at the same time. A stroker under stock induction won't make anywhere near the power that a basic H/C/I 302 will, etc, etc.
