i have a ford 302 non roller cam the block is stamped d4de and i can look up the heads too if needed,
the issue is that the alternator is slightly off when mounted with the current bracket/set-up. Its chewing up the belt and it wont even charge, what bracket should i run to get this thing to work correctly, btw the alternator is a ford 3g, thank you for all and any help

just from the pics you can see the front bracket is not evenly mounted.... start by evening that out.... after that.... i'm lost.

ive tired evening it out with washers, might get some real spacers and cut them up to exact fit, but im really wondering what ford alternator bracket i should have to make it fit correct

Yeah... looks like it's been shimmed with washers. Nothing inherently wrong with that but it does need to be flat and level with the rest of the pulleys. Continue to shim until you have is right. Use a metal flat ruler or carpenter's level to ensure it's planed out correctly.

You could always go to the junk yard and pull the entire accessory drive off of late model 5oh.

ok, lets start from the beginning. what year car and how did you wire it up. I don't see a stator wire hooked up. How do you have the alternator wired up for power, with the original wires or with the proper dedicated 4 gauge wire and fuse. Do you have a 4 gauge ground wire.

For the belt, post some better pics of the routing as it looks like there is not enough tension. Also, it is not uncommon to have a misalignment of pulleys and/or squealing after swapping out a 3g for a 2g alternator. It appears the alt pulley is too close to the alt housing and needs to be shimmed out for proper alignment. Finally as mentioned, from the angle of the pictures it seems the alternator is installed at an angle. How is it bolted on the bottom to the engine. Just go to a JY and pull a stock alt/smog pump bracket and all you need to do is grind a notch in it to make the 3g fit, or go on Flea Bay where they sell the proper bracket with the proper shims and bushings for like $30.

Well dont shun or ban me but the motor is in a 84 rx7, the wiring is correct had it pumping out 14v for a lil bit until the belt started squealing going slack and dropping down to 12.2v. on the bottom of the alt is a adjuster with eyehole ends (i think that whats their called) you can see one of them and the adjuster in the second pic. I had the belt really tight and tried going even tighter when the belt kept squealing and felt as if i would break a bearing on the crank or something (not sure if that can happen) And yes the alt is at angle i think that is why this set up is not working at least not with that janky set up of washers and nuts for spacers.

Those look like March Performance brackets. They should have came with the correct spacers, not nuts and washers. I think their website has the dimensions of every spacer, which might help to gettin that alt straightened out. Or call them and get the correct ones. The tensioner also looks maxed out for length, which isnt good as they will tend to push/pull things a certain way when they get stretched out. Maybe try a shorter belt while you are at. And for whats its worth, my march brackets have the alt flipped up with the tensioner going from the top alt bolt to the center water pump bolt, parallel to the bracket itself. This looks upside down ::shrug:

wait. Is it just me or does he have the alt brackets on wrong? Isn't the adjustable rod supposed to be mounted on the top attachment point and the bracket on the bottom? Wonder if that is part of the alignment problem.

i dont see a way to mount it the other way, if this is indeed upside down, I looked at march performance website none of their brackets quite looked like mine they are all curved and such. Where could i get spacers that i cut to length myself.

March website for the brackets and pictures of install

http://marchperf.com/pg30.html

They sell various spacers

You can also fab some spacers out of some alum or copper tubing, or even some metal pipe if need be.
