Popular Mods That You'd Recommend To Not Do

Torque, gears, HP and traction... Blah blah blah! How many regrets do I have with my mustang? None, nope, nah, nadda, zilch. I have changed every single bolt on part with the exception of the steering wheel. There.. I said it!

I couldnt sit through all 9 pages of this which is pretty much gears arent that great and everyone wanting taco bell and doritos for lunch.

I have to say I don't totally regret my gears. While for me, I prefer the 3.55's in a 5 speed, I have 3.73 in mine now and in my previous car and really NO HUGE complaints. Just a shorter than I would have liked first gear but could learn to live with it. Plus I couldnt pass up the deal on either. I just thought 3.55s would have felt a little better in first but either would be a great improvement over the stock 2.73s I had. Pretty useless 5th gear for me in the 2.73.

That being said, I would agree with many on here, just depends on what you are looking to get done and want the car for. I liked working on my suspension and thought SFC's were the :poo: as well as just replacing the 20+ year old shocks showed a huge improvement in ride quality. Plus makes for a fun little street car.

I have some I regret.

Lots of gauges, other than a water temp gauge all they do Is make a cop think your racing
Rear seat delete
Electric fan (IMO caused me tons of headaches)
trying to make a million HP (money down the drain, if your not going to drag race a lot, 350-400 hp is all u need)
DIY turbo's (never done one but besides Millhouse never seen something that actually was reliable)
SPEC clutches (sh1t for the street)
non OEM throw out bearings
Painting any interior panel
running w/o spring isolators

some of this stuff is / was necessary for my old setups but now I wish I never went that way, but that is why you get older and your idea's change. You might be reading this not agreeing with me but now Im old enough not to care about you and your thoughts .

BINGO!!!

So...in summary. You young guys reading this thread....pay attention to us veterans. We've been there, done that, didn't get the T-shirt, but we did get a temporary placebo effect, empty wallets, plenty of headaches and lost time we'll never get back.

Save your money for proven performance parts and things that really matter. Don't perform a mod to your Mustang recommended to anyone driving an engine with 4-less cylinders than yours. It's stupid. Most likely driven by a stupid kid.....yes, kids are stupid. How do we know...because we were kids once too and were just as stupid. But....because you might be one of those stupid kids reading this right now, you'll act accordingly and ignore this advice. How do we know....because someone who used to be a stupid kid once, that eventually grew up tried to give us this exact same advice and we ignored it like the stupid kids we were as well. Yup....we had to learn the hard way too!!!

So....bookmark this post and save it for a time that you're no longer a stupid kid, then open it up and look at at all of the stupid things you've done to your car since and smile.

Then, do your best to try to shake some sense into the next generation of stupid kids so they don't make the same mistakes you did.

The internet is fun, huh. :)
