Need a little help with a noise i got coming form underneath, recently got gears installed Parts installed were
Axle bearings
axle seals
pinion seal
shim kit.
355 gears
Now i,m dealing with a noise that's driving me nuts. Also just happened today i,m getting a slight knock while coasting at low speed.
I think i need new u joints but some one correct me if i,m wrong and where to look. I have uploaded a video and am wondering if someone has has this noise before and can get me going in the right direction. Video is of the rear wheels up off the ground.

Well you aren't crazy, I definitely hear it. Almost sounds like it would be the driveshaft slightly rubbing on something (like the exhaust) but I'm sure that's not it. And it only started after the gear install right?

who did the gear install?

Disconnect the driveshaft and spin the pinion. See if you still hear the noise. Did you install the driveshaft the same way as you took it out- did you mark the rear flange where it attaches to the pinion.

Yep after a week she started to make noise. A local shop did the work and said they could not here any noise, now for it to start making noise it's got to be in motion say for 5km so just after she's moving and warmed up then bam the dreaded noise.

The u joints is what I expect as the one's on there right now have no greese zerks for me to lube up so I bought a couple and waiting for them to go it soon.

In the video this is not pointed at the rear diff but rather where the shaft meets the transmission. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing but I'm sure it's the shaft making the noise.

Did you fix the noise? I have exactly the same situation. New gears, bearings, and pinion seal and after about 1/2 hour at highway speeds it sounds like your video. Sounds like it is coming from the pinion seal?

Similar sound I had. Was the trans output shaft seal. A squirt of lubricating spray quieted it up.

I'll have the driveshaft off shortly and I'll grease it up properly then
