I have a 289 with 4 speed that's been sitting for years. Now the clutch has welded itself to the flywheel. Once I get the engine started, how do I unstick the clutch? I've hear that several heat/cool cycles will do it, or start it in gear, or tow it with the clutch pedal depressed. Is there one way that's better?

I had a 428 with a stuck clutch disk .A 428 has a large inspection pan that exposes the whole bottom of the fly wheel ,the disk and the pressure plate .I had my brother push the clutch pedal while i gently pried the disk with a large screwdriver .The disk was a metallic disk and had rusted to the fly wheel .Very little rust actually but it was really stuck .A 289 will be a bit harder but you may be able to remove the starter and get at the disk with some type of hook tool.
