Workin with my daily drivin 01 GT auto. At the moment i have flowmaster mufflers and she sounds pretty sweet when i lay my foot down but i want to uncork her and get rid of my cats. (Without getting in trouble) any advice?
On the cheap: change out your flowmasters for a louder variety (super 10's are the loudest, then original 40's, then super 44's) http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?page_id=10995 chart at top of that link shows loudest to quietest.
Medium cost: upgrade muffler per above, get new mid pipe (which ever sound you like). I added a single cat to each side of my o/r mid pipe. Reduced the number of cats (stock is 4) but still passed
Most costly but best combo: long tubes. Shorty mid pipe and new muffler.
Depends on your state and your definition of "trouble". PA technically has a visual emissions inspection but I've never failed and I don't have any cats, just the plug and play o2 fake sensors. If you can get away with that (it kills the check engine light which is an auto fail for most states emissions testing) then no problem ditching the cats, go with an off-road H or X pipe.
