Engineering Electronic 2spd Fan Control Need Your Input

Oh but there is a very good reason to keep the fans going even without water moving. If I turn off my car and do nothing the temp will go up as much as 20 dges or even more from maybe 190 to 210 or more. If I open the hood a few inches the temp will stay down at least 10 degs lower and drop much...

I am engineering a new electronic 2 speed electric radiator fan controller and would appreciate some feedback and input from you guys. A while back I posted about an electronic systems monitor I am also working on and it is almost ready for beta testing. Now I am working on the fan controller. I...

Really Strange Starting Problem, Please Help.

Problem solved, missing ground strap in the distributor. I bought the car with pertronix already installed. Have had chronic starting problems from day one just not as bad as recently. Put in a ground wire and it starts perfetly everytime.

Really Strange Starting Problem, Please Help.

The relay is there because the coil does need 12 volts. The run wire from the ignition switch is a resistor wire which drops the voltage down to 6 volts. As for using a relay, lots of people have done it search the forums. The relay is obviously not the problem since it ran fine with it for 2...

Really Strange Starting Problem, Please Help.

I have something really strange going on. I have a 68 mustang 302 with edelbrock 321/347 package and 500 cfm carb with performer intake. Recently started having start problems. Flamethrower coil was leaking and finally blew out. Changed to accel super stock coil and problem was fixed for about 2...

Systems Monitor....... Would You Buy It?

Gene, I am looking into the possibility of using the existing sending units. Does anyone know exactly what the signals for oil and temp are? I assume resistance but don't know for sure. It could be voltage. Right now i use an add on mechanical temp guage, much more accurate than the dash guage...

Systems Monitor....... Would You Buy It?

Thanks guys for all the helpful comments and suggestions. And the idea of using the Ford Custom lights is a good one but I am thinking more along just 1, 2, or 3 leds. In fact I can actually do it with just one that will change color depeding on condition. Say green when normal, yellow when iffy...

Systems Monitor....... Would You Buy It?

Thanks for your constructive feedback, it helps. I too only want analog guages as my first stage of monitoring and I don't want anything complicated. Like you I bought an old car for a daily driver because I can work on it. I do not want fuel injection or any car that relies on computers to run...

Systems Monitor....... Would You Buy It?

Thanks for the constructive comment. As for seeing steam first ...... when I knew I had a problem was when I saw steam and the damage was done. I will never let my car get hot enough again to cause steam. So far 2 comments don't tell me much but yours helps. So maybe a non-intrusive audible...

    Ignition Switch Problems

My advice is to rewire all large loads thru pilot relays. Headlights and A/C compressor and heater fan. I even rewired my ignition thru a relay. My switch was so hot could not touch the key especially if runnig lights or a/c. My switch finally toasted so i bought a new one from johns mustang in...

Systems Monitor....... Would You Buy It?

I have a 68 mustang coupe. A couple of years ago overheated and blew a head. Very expensive matter. As you all know our older cars do not have the montoring systems available on todays cars. I scan my guages constantly but an engine can overheat and blow in 30 seconds. I am an old retired...

    Choke Question, Edelbrock 500

I live in very humid Houston and have the Edel 500 also. If you are referring to the starting problem after you have run the car a bit then starting problems may be caused by carb boil over which a carb spacer can help. When i do a cold start i put pedal to the floor and back up 2 times to set...

Roller Rockers For The Street, Are They Really Worth It?

I recently rebuilt my 302 with Edelbrock 321/347 package, cam, heads, performer intake and 500 cfm carb. Used Compcams aluminum roller rockers and it works great. Not noisy at all. Runs like a scalded hound dog. Great torque. Get the roller rockers.

    69 302 Engine Rebuild Problems

Had a similer issue with my 68. Had to have heads removed and checked. Heads cked out fine and the only thing we could find was a very tiny dimple in one block surface. Went back with Edelbrock heads and thicker head gasket and now no problem. My symptoms were same as yours. Not leak till...

    Picking Out Leaf Springs?

Do not buy springs from Laural Mountain, they are junk. I bought the 5 leaf high performance and they lasted 2 months before sagging worse than my old worn out 4 leaf. Customer service sucks.

    Will These Wheels Fit?

I have a 68 Mustang coupe with drum brakes. I picked up a set of custom chrome wheels at a great price and wonder if they will fit. It looks like they will but not sure. They are 5 spoke chrome 17" x 9" with 6" backspace. My currnt wheels are same except 7.5" or 8" I think and not sure about...

Custom 1969 Mustang (pics) - What Cam Should I Use?

If you need to change heads and cam I suggest the Edelbrock 321/347 package. I have it on my 68 302 block with 289 guts with a performer intake and Edelbrock 500 cfm. My performance is amazing and perfect for street use, not too aggressive. It's always better to go with a matched system whenever...

Cranking Problem '68 Suggestions Greatly Appreciated

I think i have it figured out. It is definitly fuel boil over and research points to gas with alcohol in it. Ethanol has a much lower boiling point than gasoline. I read many articles pointing out that gasohol causes lots of vapor lock and boil over problems. Experiments i ran the past few days...

Cranking Problem '68 Suggestions Greatly Appreciated

I know about the terminal on the starter relay. But I do get full 12 vdc to the coil because i bypassed the resistor wire when I bought the car 2 years ago. It was only giving me 5 volts so i did away with it. But i think i found the cold start problem anyway. The ignition switch gives you power...
