    O3 Cobra Compression test

    I've had an 01 cobra for about 6 years and have enjoyed it. I'm about to sell it and get an 03 cobra with 30,000 miles on it. I did a compression test on the 03 cobra with these results: 1. 200 2. 195 3. 200 4. 175 5. 200 6. 200 7. 195 8. 195 All numbers in psi. The numbers...

    05 GT Threads

It seems the 05s will be tough from a dig. I think we are seeing a lot of sub 2.0 60 foot time from these machines. A Mach may be able to handle this, but an IRS NA cobra will have some trouble matching this time.

    Ever raced a classic?

Well at least they are rating the engines in net HP. Good luck with your decision.

    Ever raced a classic?

I suppose it would be easier to rate cars in rear wheel HP, but I doubt the car companies would do it, because it would reduce the HP ratings of new cars, so I doubt the car companies would rate them that way. It seems there was an article in either 5.0 or MM$FF a couple of years ago that...

    Ever raced a classic?

It's interesting how much HP the accessories use. The comparisons are difficult to estimate the HP of some of these older engines in comparison with new ones because some, old and new, are well under rated. Still, this is fun stuff.

    Ever raced a classic?

A six speed would be gread for sure. There's a lot of parts you can use to upgrade that engine. Thousands in fact. The car sure does have the looks though.

    Ever raced a classic?

I might need to know a lot more, but if it's as I discribed and you have one of the original type 4 speed manual transmissions, I would say about 180 horse power at the wheels.

    05 GT Threads

The new mustang is quite nice. Still, many of the comments are more than a bit out of line. It reminds me of some of the old Mach I verses 99 and 01 cobra threads. Seems more than a bit unrealistic.

    Ever raced a classic?

In the 60s and early 70s the engines were rated in gross horse power instead of net horse power like they do today. This was at the crank not at the wheels. There's very roughly a 20% difference between the two. 2700# seems a bit low. I believe mine weighed in at just over 3000#.

    Ever raced a classic?

From the discription of your 65, it sounds like the 289 was originally rated about 225 gross horse power. That would be about 175 net horse power. With the mods I would say you are in the low 200s in net horse power. This sound about right? You likely weigh in at about 3100 lbs. I had one...

is there a huge difference in street performance?

For me, street performance involves mostly first and second gear. I've driven 98,99,01 and 03 cobras and an 03 and 04 Mach I. They all seemed much stronger than the one 02 GT I drove and not that much diffenent from each other in first and second from a SOTP feel. I could say the same for the...

    05 Stang vs Cobra

It looks like the 05 launchs very well. Hard to say, but my bet goes with the 05 in 0 to 60 and the 1/8th mile and the cobra in the quarter, but only with a very good driver.

    2005 stock dyno numbers 279rwhp 300TQ

Nice numbers. Flat torque curve and better average hp than most stock four valve 4.6 Lengines I've seen. The graph for the GT goes above 6K RPM. What's the rev limit on the new GT 4.6L?

thinkin about sellin the cobra for a corvette

I also have thought about this. I don't want to let the cobra go though, so I may have both. Many 2002 Z06s are just over $30K now. Heck of a machine for that.

OK 2001 Cobra.... Pros and cons

Wheel hop is also my big complaint. I had a passanger window go bad, but nothing else has been an issue. The car is quick but geared high for a 7000RPM machine. It needs at least 390s. Some say 410s. I'm moving to Indy and drove the cobra there a couple of weeks ago. Dang thing got...

Fed up with my 5.0. What do the 4.6 cobra's have to offer.

I've driven a lot of mustangs all the way from a 289 65 fastback I owned, 69 Boss 302, to an 03 Mach and cobra to name a few. The 01 cobra I have now is one of my favorites. It handles well and actually gets 20mpg in town. At todays gas prices that not bad and something to consider. Uses...

    2005 GT vs 2004 Mach 1

Tough call between the 04 Mach and the O5 GT. Both look good to me. Based on preliminary info on the 05 GT, it looks like it will have slightly lower peak HP but similar average HP between optimum shift points. The extra weight of the 05 and the lower RPM capability will likely keep it a tick...

Mach 1 Your first test drive in a Mach1

K&N filters are used in many applications without an issue. I can't see how the Mach I would be different.
