    Converible Roof Problems

I've owned 2 convertibles in my life, a 1968 Mustang and a 1975 Caddillac. In both cases the convertible top stops 2 inches short of closed due to the tightness of the top, and you must manually pull it down to latch it. In the case of the Caddy, it took some muscle. Now I'm sure that modern...

    19 or 20's for my 05

Do those tires have a make and model? (grin). Also, you went shorter overall height in the front and rear than stock. I didn't notice if you lowered it or not. Doesn't that make a gap in the wheel well, and have you corrected your speedo yet?

    19 or 20's for my 05

I don't want to ruin the thread by being too technical, but the wet and dry traction are more a factor of the tire, not the wheel. What brand and model tires, and what sizes, did you use?

    GT pinging on 87 octain

Ethanol contains less energy per gallon than gasoline. Since your car isn't adjusting for that in any fashion, that means you will get lower HP from gasahol than gasoline all other variables held constant. BUT, if you have a car that can be tuned to take advantage of higher octane, then you...

    O5 GT wheel hop?

My opinion, from driving my car, is that Ford tuned the axle-hop out of the car in many conditions, but couldn't tune them out of all. If your launch style hits the anti-sweet-spot, it hops pretty easily. That would be a combination of grip, power application, etc. that gets it hopping. One...

    GT pinging on 87 octain

The 05's have a knock sensor. If you are getting a slight ping on first heavy load, but it goes away in a fraction of a second, that's the knock sensor doing its job. If you get sustained pinging, that would indicate one of two things. 1) very bad gas that is so bad that it is outside the...

    Spinners??

Simmer down. I'm making a technical point. The management here wants this particular forum to deal with tech talk. Mods for appearances sake only would go into the exterior mods section. What part of that isn't crystal clear?

    Drop kit questions

Meaningless question. What brand and model of tire? What size? What weight wheels, front and rear? What backspacing? Did you match new shocks to the new unsprung weights? Even if you answered ALL those hypotheticals, I'd be an idiot to say I knew exactly what it would be like. The quick...

    19 or 20's for my 05

I dunno, maybe it's a Sticky Note at the top of the forum that I read that gave me the impression. Or maybe it was the fact that we have a S197 Exterior/Interior Modifications - Styling, Accessories, Audio, etc. forum that gave me that impression. Call me nuts, but this is a style...

    Spinners??

It would be SOOO much easier if the bling bling crowd hadn't stolen the name of the spinner hub (that held on KNOCK OFF WHEELS) for their latest craze. Back before this silly wheel thing got going, the spinner was the nut (usually 3 winged) that held on a knock-off wheel, no lug nuts...

    19 or 20's for my 05

Judging from this thread, it looks like this is a fashion question, not a performance one, right? Because only one person mentioned unsprung weight, and not one person chimed in about handling. Maybe this should be in the Exterior Modifications forum? I don't see any Tech in the question... ?

Top Gear Review on 05 GT

How are you measuring efficiency? In one argument, you say HP/displacement, in the next, you say HP/fuel. Which is it? By the way, nobody here has any data about what type of fuel consumption the cars have while producing peak HP. So don't go around showing EPA mileage and HP peaks as any...

Need Help with picking out Exhaust..

As many of you know, Flowmaster did their first research on my car, and determined that their off-the-shelf mufflers wouldn't give them the sound they wanted. They also didn't see any horsepower increase on the units they left me with at the end of the 4 days of testing (Super40's). I've...

Don't know what this Integra was thinking

I had someone in a SATURN chasing me and speeding up and slowing down, it was really crazy. I just floored it on a mildly busy freeway and got a bit ahead to avoid this jerk. So my exit is coming up, and I decide to take it really fast. I go down the offramp (straight shot to the bottom, no...

Diablo uses my 05 for a test car for the PREDATOR

Hey, I didn't say the motor would run at 7000rpm. Neither did the 289 2-barrel on my 1966 fastback I had in high school. It had no rev limiter (heck, it didn't even have a TACH), and somehow, some way, that motor didn't kill itself. If he wants his rev limiter moved up to 7krpm, the more...

Diablo uses my 05 for a test car for the PREDATOR

Actually, I'm all for OTHER people to push their cars to the point of blowing motors. How else are we going to find out? ;) I don't want to see him break a motor either. But I've had all sorts of manual transmission cars that didn't have rev limiters at all. Just because he moved it to 7krpm...

Diablo uses my 05 for a test car for the PREDATOR

Moving the rev limiter to 7krpm allows you to swing up and through 6300rpm and not worry about cutting out. Most older cars don't have rev limiters. You don't absolutely need one, and 7krpm seems like a good "idiot limit". I would expect most poeple to NOT go let it sing at 6850 all day long.
