For the 12....

Is it still 12?....What do the polls say?....I feel like I'm losing my constituents.

Is you is,...or is you ain't my constituency?

tumblr_nxp18wr4Dw1urjr9do5_1280.jpg

Tomorrow I'll plod back into the detail work. I have a small thing I might have to do w/ an old customer, that will kill the morning but that shouldn't be more than a couple of hours.

After that I'm free.

So,...which path to walk?

PATH A: I can stay focused on the interior. Go downtown, and buy the generic stuff to make a new headliner. Cover it in black headliner material, insulate the underside of the roof and get it installed. Possibly get the heat exchanger ducting routed, and put the interior quarter panels in place so they can be repaired (one of them is cracked at the base), cleaned, primed, and painted in the saddle brown color similar to the dash leather.

I'll have to have some vinyl dye mixed up custom and spray it out of a gun......I want to try and get a close match to the dash color.

If there is any time left over,..I can rough in the A pillar trim,...and get it glassed so that it will sit on top of the dash pad like it belongs there.

** Question for @Davedacarpainter ...Those pieces of plastic,.....Do I have to use fiberglass mat and resin for that process,..or a "Kitty hair" product to make the base of the A pillar blend?

If,.......If I can do all of that,....I'll have the top of the car installed inside,....carpet and door panels will be after that....were talking,.....Little Japanese kid here....

OR,....

PATH B:

I stay outside and color sand and buff the exterior. Adjust the passenger door forward, or the drivers door rear ward.

Here's the deal with that....

Remember the gasket dillemma wher I have to slam the P iss outta the door to get it to close?

Well however/whatever the difference is between the two doors, the passenger door (where the gap in front is too big, and the gap at the rear is too close).......Shuts like a factory fresh door.

I'm thinking that the driver's side door is too far forward in actuality, and the "pinch" on the door gasket is acting like a wedge to not allow that door to shut as nice as the passenger door does.

It'll mean taking a chance that I'll phck up the paint. It'll mean that the hinge mounting surface that Dave painted will be screwed up to hell and back,....But maybe it'll mean that I can shut my door like a can on the passenger side........

CLICK.

Remember this guy?

MatkoskyMike2_zps660446b0.jpg

(Passenger side,.....about actual size)

The cyclone decals are too big to go in the space immediately behind the front wheel openings,...they'll overhang the front door gaps, and I do not want to cut the decal and have a gap in the middle. Obviously,..I have to come up with an alternate position for them. Only two possible locations:

1.At the front leading edge of the door.
2. Somewhere on the rear quarter similar to what Chrysler does with their junk.

These pieces are "icing" for me. I'm a theme guy, and this car is my take on a updated version of that namesake using the Fairmont as a template. That said,..the front name badge, the rear tail light piece AND these decals are all part of the theme.

They're goin on there as sure as I'm writing this. Where to put them is the solicitation for advice here,...NOT whether or not to put them on.......Nick. @95BlueStallion

In order to put them on however,..the mounting surface has to be buffed so,.hence the indecision.

If I can get the entire car to a point of "waxibility",....all that'll be left outside is to decide what to do about the wheels.

I said earlier that black was back,..and the polished lip was gonna be painted orange,.....but time has went by since I said that. Things change with me given enough time...
OR...
I could paint them black, and leave the lip polished. (But this time they'd be satin, instead of the gloss they once were)
OR....
I could paint the entire wheel gold. (the right color gold like I originally wanted to)

The reason for the waffling on the orange and black wheel thing, is that there is alot of orange and black on this car already. As much of a pain in the ass as it is to mask these wheels,...I just wanna be sure I'm doing it right this time..

So see,.....all kinds of instance for hand wringing on my part. And look,.......there is literally an entire page here of "options" for you to give your input on. Now... I know that some of you may be hesitant,..for fear of losing any part of your Maximus Glutimus should I take your opinion the wrong way....that ain't gonna happen here.

So........Rest easy.

With the glass, use the matt and resin to build the basic shape. Use your kitty hair to finish it out. The piece will crack if you don't have the matte to provide support.

The cyclone sticker. I think on the rear of the quarter would be a far better option than even the fender. It's large enough that you need a large panel to make it feel proportionate. Plus it would just look hot there IMO.

Avoid the rubbing till you get the glass in. Why sling compound all over that pretty interior?

In no particular order lol:
I vote to finish the interior.
How about a black rim with a gold lip?or vice versa.
I really like the idea of the graphics on the quarter panels.
Is a black headliner non negotiable?

Constituent #12

You were supposed to chose PATH A, or PATH B.....

The saddle color is kinda what I was thinking.
Or maybe a different kind of material. Like suede ?
I hear you.

I think the priority will be to see if I can find a headliner material exactly the same saddle brown color that the carpet is, then matching the vinyl dye to the carpet and headliner color. That'll leave three different colors happening inside..

1. Black, 2.The leather color, and 3. The carpet/headliner/vinyl color.

See raggedy,...the voice of reason....rings true.

So, what all is black Mike. I know about your door bars, what else?

Finish option A first, and get your glass in before you sling more poo in there with that dust. As far as the decals, I like them, always have, so dont assume I would say dont use them ya crotchety old coot. I would suggest using the one you labeled passenger side (when applied to fender), on the driver's rear quarter as the ternader will lean the correct direction with the angle of the quarter at the rear. That is all, get back to work and stop obsessing over me going against all your choices.

PS. What ever came of the update you said you just knew I was going to like?

I'm an option A guy. For all the above mentioned reasons.

I'm also intrigued by matching the headliner with the carpet "option". Black works no doubt but if you can get a matching "saddle brown" that would be better IMO. Unless there is more black in the interior than I remember.

Also I vote for the quarter panel for the sticker. I also would prefer the black wheel with a polished lip. I think it would contrast just the right amount. And I'm not a black wheel fan in most instances. I'm not a fan of the gold option. But that's just me and could be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

It is as of yet unfinished,...Tomorrow is Wednesday. I'm working on PLAN A (evidently) so that leaves the outside of the car unfinished for now...

Now it's down to 4 :nonono:

Now I know what Trump feels like......

Dammit!!!..... Was it something I said????

Seats, bars, entire back half where the little Japanese kid sits.
Headliner color could go either way to me.

Black, of course would be what everyone else does and no matter how nice of a job you do on it, people will think you bought a nice headliner from TMI (unless you diamond tuck it or something else unique).

The wheels? Get them powder coated a matte or semigloss bronze, but hey, you do what you want to.;)

While that cyclone sticker is pretty cool, didn't the old dusters have something similar?

Well........of course it did....Where do you think I stole the Idea from anyway?
Although mine is completely custom,...I gave the artist this very picture as template when I had him design my version. If you look at the difference between the one above, and the the Chrysler decal,..you'll see that dude only used the design for inspiration,...nothing is actually plagerized.

This is the factory emblem that was stuck on a 1970-1976 Duster. (I always liked those cars)

The 1971 Plymouth "Twister Duster" (of all the oxymoron's) was actually an economy based, low optioned slug that came either w/ a 225 slant 6, or a 2bbl 318. I considered using the decal itself back in the day, but wanted the swirls to be cut out as opposed to be printed on a blob of vinyl like it did on the factory emblem, so the body color would show through. I also wanted the "cyclone" himself to be a lot more pi ssed looking rather than looking like he was having trouble going to the toilet.

Ohhh I'm liking the Bronze Idea!.......I'll check into that.

Rear quarter for the decal. Don't put it on the door, please. I'm afraid that would be tacky. The rear quarter may be Chryslerish, but at least it says "muscle car" and not "cop" or "Chinee food delivery"
