Why are there jumper connections at my 10 pin connectors at the back of the intake? I'm talking about the between the wiring harness connections. It seems to only extend then 4 inches or so. Is that all they are for?
Yes. My understanding is that Ford ran into a problem with the original length wires to the 10 pins becoming disconnected. There was a factory recall and the extension piece was added for more length to the original harness and that seem to stop the problem.
I have enough to plug them in without the extensions. It just seems like another area to possibly have a problem.
The extension harness was for recall 91E19 to prevent an intermittent connection resulting in the check engine light coming on. I expect it relieved some stress on the main harness by adding the extra slack.
This is probably the best explanation for the extension harness. Ford Fuel Injection 10-pin Connector Fix
What years was the recall for? My '88 never had the extensions installed, and i found it bone stock down to the silencer with a grandma driving it. FWIW, i've only seen the extentsions on 1989's and up
my 90 had these also, it even had a sticker on the radiator support showing that the dealer performed the 10 pin jumper fix for a tsb.
