Hey guys what's up? .. I don't know anything about Mustangs and I don't even own one, but my next door neighbor owns 2003 Cobra and he always talking ish about my car (I have 97 GTI VR6 Turbo) how he can take me any time bla bla bla .. but then he started to talk about mods that's where I got little bit suspicious.. the mods that he has "big ass supercharger" that's what he calls it and he has 150 N20 shots .. he says he's running 9.50 in 1/4 ???? and the car is "street legal" Is he BS me ??? Thx
Hmmm.... There are a couple different aftermarket superchargers available for the 03/04 Cobra. The stock M112 Eaton is a little over 1.8L. Kenne Bell makes a 2.2L and a 2.4L for the Cobra. Whipple makes a 2.3L and rumor has it they are adapting their 3.3L blower to work on a Cobra! So he may have a larger blower than the stock Eaton. As far as a 150 shot of N2O... that's a lot of juice for these blown Cobra's. A little goes a long way since the car is F/I. So the real question is if this guy does have a Kenne Bell or Whipple supercharger on his car and a 150 shot of giggle gas is the car capable of running 9.50's? Well depending on the boost the superchrger is making, yes there is enough horsepower there to propell a car to a 9.50... but he's going to need an ASS LOAD of supporting mods to do it!!!! First off he better be running a straight axle and not the IRS that comes in a 2003 Cobra. To run a 9.50 you have to be cutting some serious 60' times and that IRS is not the rear end to be doing such with. He also wouldn't still be running the stock T-56 6-speed gearbox. Most likely the car would require an automatic to achieve ET's in the mid 9 secound zone. It would take a LOT of talent to power-shift a T-56 equipped Cobra to a 9.5 secound run. The car would also need to be lightened up considerably because the stock weight on these '03's are 3600+ Lbs. He would also need a rool cage installed because no NHRA/IHRA certified track would allow him to run times that quick without one. I could go on, and on, and on about all the other things that would need to be done in order to make a 9.50 pass in a 2003 Cobra.... but I think you get my point. Bottom line.... Is it possible to run a 9.50 with an '03 Cobra? Yes, there are a very few guys running times like that... but it takes a bunch more modifications than just a "big ass supercharger" and a 150 N20 shot. I think the guy is exaggerating just a little... I'd ask to see his 9.50 slip if I were you. ...and yes... if I were a betting man I'd say he's full of U.M.
