SS 13.0@111.0 v6 14.6@104.xx (v6 sounds like fart) why is it that chevy didnt follow the v6-z/28-ss line up? maybe its because they knew the z/28 wouldnt cut it? they need a whole 111hp to be 0.5 quiker...hmm wheres svt with that damn new cobra!! that is all...
While the numbers may be disappointing (to Camaro fans) and encouraging (to Mustang fans), don't let those numbers fool you. Look at the MPH's. With proper gearing and tires, that SS will do 12.5 and the V6 will do 13.5. With an intake, tune, gears, and tires, we could be in big trouble.
yep. i am not trapping much faster then that 6 banger. so a decently set up 6 banger might give me some trouble. thats why i am just focusing on building a drag car. and stop modifying my car heavily.
To be honest, I don't expect to run into too many modded SS's, at least for awhile. With gears and some LT's, I don't think I'll be sweating it much. However, first one that runs me down and I'll be calling Brenspeed for that Zex Wet Kit
Well we wouldn't be waiting on the new cobra for so long if SVT hadn't been all but shut down for a long time but now that they're "coming back" and theyve had their hands on some new vehicles maybe the new cobra won't be so far off and then that SS slomaro Won't be that big of a deal, just my 2 cents
This is why you drive and enjoy your car for what it is. The V6 is hitting traps around a stock 05-09 GT and the V8 is MUCH faster than a GT. If you are worried about power and having the fastest thing on the road, you better get a supercharger quick! I'm looking forward to see what Ford does on the power front in 2011 though. No way am I going to lose sleep over a faster car. They're all over the place!
True the trap speed is high, I would say with a set of sticky tires the SS will run mid 12's. The thing to remember is he with most money has faster car no matter what you drive so, I love my Mustang even if I do get beat by a Camaro.
yeah. there will always be someone faster. not even worth trying. just as long as our cars dont get out performed by more affordable imports we're still alright on the list of cars.
SVT never shut down and the "New Cobra" has been out for 3 years now aka: GT500. Also the SS is nothing to the GT500 it dominates the SS in every way.
Exactly. I didn't buy this to be the fastest. I bought it because I have a love of Mustangs. The Mustang is an icon. As much following as the Camaro has, that car will never be the icon that the Mustang is. They've never stopped producing the Mustang, and it's been in more movies and TV shows than 1 can count. It's instantly recognizable, and almost everyone appreciates a great looking Mustang. On top of that, they hold their own. Ford doesn't need to shove a 7 liter engine in it to get it to run 13's.
Camaros have always been faster and more expensive than the Mustang. And after the 2010 Mustang rolls out, they will look better too. The Mustang is still fun to drive, like the Miata.
Also bear in mind that Nissan's 350z has had 300+ hp out of a V6 for a while now. This is just another 300hp V6. People just care because it is the new Camaro. The Hyundai Genesis coupe has a 300hp V6 as well. There is really nothing to see here. I think Chevy is coming out with a competitive product . I've never drive one, but it is very competitive for today's market.
A66Auto, I'm not sure I agree with you. When the 5.0 came out in 1985, I beleive they had the performance upper hand on the Camaro. Even when Chevy put the 5.7 in the Iroc, the 5.0was still quicker. I bought a new 1990 5.0 5spd and a new 1991 GTA 5.7 T/A, the 5.0 was about 2 tenths quicker. The only thing the Camaro did better was stop. I do agree with the comment "There is always someone quicker". I have always been more of a Chevy guy but I bought a new Mustang because of the looks, aftermarket and factory support. Ford showed a lot of commitment to the hobby by improving the Mustang year after year even after Chevy bailed on the Camaro enthusiasts. If I buy a new performance Chevrolet it will be a Corvette, I will pass on the Camaro even if it does have more HP stock.
The Challenger, GTO, 350Z/370Z, Genesis, and Camaro was/were/is supposed to kill Mustang sales. Some may be faster or handle a little better but none "destroy" the Mustang in any performance catagory. The following are just MY opinions as to why the Mustang will not be outsold. Challenger=fast, but expensive, and big A young driver looks like he's trying to flaunt his dad's car. GTO=fast, ugly ext+int (I think it's cool though), and expensive. European body posing as an American muscle car. 350/370Z=fast, handles great, expensive, and seats 2. ANNOYING exhaust tone...ricer. Genesis=quick, but the name Hyundai will take some time for some to accept as quality although they putting decent vehicle's on market. Trying to copy Nissan/Infiniti. Come up with your own design. Camaro=fast, we'll have to see about pricing. Front end looks like a cartoon character smiling. "Too flashy, I'll get tickets." Mustang=fast, affordable pricing. Durablity. I see tons of Mustangs every day. Some neglected, but all still run hard and still run. Exhaust tone that makes people's eyes follow the car...unique? A car that the owner purchased by choice, not by price (The Genesis may get some sales from Nissan/Infiniti). Anyway, back on topic, the 6 and 8 Camaro's are great performers.
