The CMCV's opening up at 3000 rpm isn't the VCT system. The VCT isn't open/closed like Honda VTEC (although they've added variable timing in the latter systems).

So does the tune open these up so they stay open all the time? If so, what would be the purpose to buying the CMCV deletes after a tune?

Get a Bamachips tune. Mine did this with a Superchips tune. The Bamachips Race Tune seems to free the car up in low gears and has excellent throttle response.

my big question is that being these butterflys are electronically opened isn't/shouldn't there be a way for a tuner to make them stay open that way you wouldn't have to worry about putting in delete plates??

Just get the plates. They're cheap, easy to install, and help a lot. I have stock 3.31 gears and I didn't notice a decline in lower RPM's.

There is no way as far as I know to keep the stock plates on and leave them open and even if there was it could damage the engine :nono: . If you were at WOT and the butterflies in the plates happened to somehow close you would be in big trouble. You can however remove the plates and remove the butterflies or for about 100 bucks buy a set and get a custom tune. I bought Steeda plates and installed the in about an hour to an hour and a half. Added 8rwhp and 5rwtq on a mustang dyno.

Even if they are open, they are still in the airflow. Ford went though a fair amount of effort to make them thin (rivets don't stick out far, the rod the plates are on is flattened), but they still get in the way. They are only a small obstruction, hence the 5ish hp improvement.

My car sounds quite a bit different now without them in there, too.

Get the BamaChips tune and I recommend 3.73 for auto and 4.10 for manual rear gears.
