In every gear my car feels kinda a bit doggish until it hits exactly 3 grand on the tach and then it pulls like crazy all the way up. Almost like someone is flipping a supercharger switch. For example, if I'm in second going 25 mph and i just floor the gas it will move pretty slow and then as soon as it hits 3000 rpm it will just go nuts. Now, i know that cars obviously run better at a certain rpm but i just think it's kinda wierd that there's that much of a difference when it hits that rpm mark and it's like that in every gear. Does this sound like a tune problem? Or maybe the fact that I have the stock gears??

Perhaps a dirty MAF or TB. My car goes hard from idle to redline in any gear, so that leads me to a problem somewhere. Have you changed any of the parameters of the tune that may have contributed to the sluggishness?

The 4.6 makes a lot of its power past 3000.... that's how it is. Also, I'm sure the variable cam timing has something to do with it.

Mine did the same thing really bad stock, not so bad anymore after the tune, but i think it also has something to do with the cmcv plates and the fly by wire tb

I know exactly what you mean. Have a 2007 GT. Brenspeed tuen helped alot. To me this has been the main difference in the 4.6 and 5.0.

Mine does the exact same thing and I have a Brenspeed tune.

ok so at least it's not just me that's experiencing this. hey kooldawg i wonder if because you have an automatic that's why you don't notice it? it seems like everyone that notices it that wrote back has 5 speeds. i wonder if brent knows about this and if there's anything that can be done with the tune to correct it. i'm gonna have to call brenspeed and see if he has any ideas... i'll let you guys know what they say

Could be since mine is the auto. I'm getting ready to post a few more vids, so you can see and hear that mine runs hard from idle.

+? Mine does the same thing at around 2500-3000 it puts you in your seat but before that, not as much. Hopefully after a few light mods and a tune it will disappear. I believe that in part it has something to due withe the variable cam timing as well. Having had a few VTEC hondas that is a byproduct of the variable timing, but could also have to do with the airflow and throttle response too.

    ****UPDATE*****

OK I just got off the phone with brenspeed and they told me that this is definitely from the cmcv plates. they're programmed to open the butterflys a bit over 3K rpm. They said you will notice it even more after you get a tune done because the extra horsepower you're getting after the tune makes that much of a difference that when those things fully open (at 3 grand) you really feel the full effects of the tune kicking in. Sooo... I think delete plates are next on my list:) Btw, they recommend using these with lower gears beause you do lose a bit of low end torque when you are not at WOT. So the lower gears will help you stay in a good rpm range. I'm thinking about getting these and a set of 3.90's.

A Torque tune from BamaChips will wake up the car at lower rpm's.

Tungsten, why 3.90s? There isn't that much difference between the 3.73 and 3.90 OR the 3.90 and 4.10. Besides, FRPP does not make a 3.90 so there could be possible whine issues.

I've had 373 and 410 before, I liked 373 in my 01 but wanted a little more and i drove my friends 04 gt with 410 and they were too much for me especialy for a power adder. im getting 3.90 for my new stang, and i have used motive gears before with zero problems.

You make a good point about the gear whine and only using ford. I forgot about gear whine issues when people don't use frpp gears. as for the 3.90's... my neighbors friend works for JDM in freehold nj and he told me that they usually go with 3.90's when they have a new mustang brought in. that's what made me think those would work out good because I was torn between 3.73's and 4.10's in the first place so I though they might be a good compromise. To be honest I didn't know that ford doesn't make 3.90's. Thanks for the info! I want to avoid any kind of problems so now it's back to trying to decide 3.73's or 4.10's!

does any one have any more technical information on the variable cam timing. also, like killer stated above it is similar to the honda version of vtec. from what i understand the honda vtec, you can get a tune for when it ingauages is that possible with a custom tune to change when the varibile timing kicks in for a ford?

I'm glad I went with at least the 4.10s as I will soon be increasing the rear tire height. I will be going from the stock height of 27.2" to 28.3" so that will somewhat reduce my ratio. Perhaps could even step up to the 4.30s if/when this stops being my DD:rlaugh:

Nothing wrong with Motive Gears... 3.90's are a nice ratio for a DD.

My DD used to be a '98 Jetta TDI. It just doesn't have any wow factor at all after driving the Mustang. In fact, it has sat unstarted since last November...
