Anyone have or know anyone who has 4.10's in an '03 Cobra. The install is not a problem, I am just curious if anyone has an opinion in regards to the performance difference.
I did the swap in my '97 and it was a no brainer. Several people I have spoken to are against it with the '03 because traction becomes such an issue.
But I am not dedicated to the 60 ft time, or even the quarter mile issue, so the drive to lift the front wheels off of the ground during a launch is not really there.
I have 18 inch wheels with 305 DR's, and with the 6 speed trans I again think it is a no brainer.

What exactly is your reason for the lower gears if a better 60' or quarter mile time is not the driving factor? Now if you want to be able to smoke the tires from a 3rd gear roll... go ahead and get the 4.10's, but if you are just wanting to compensate for the 18 inch wheels the 3.90's would be ideal.

From what I have seen, the people with the stock gears are running fastest with these cars. 4.10s would make it so you can hardly drive it. If the install isn't a problem, go ahead and put them in, but just be ready to take them back out..

I've run them in my 03 for a year and a half. Most of the people who say don't do it haven't been in a car with gears. On the interstate the car feels so much better. It seems to help with the transition from tire spin to tire grip without as much wheel hop. At the track with an easy 3500 rpm lauch on drag radials I was able to pull back to back 1.7 60' times. The only down side is in the 1/4 mile I can bump the limiter about 50 feet past the trap lights if I stay in it in fourth gear.

how hard is the install, btw..

and with new '05 GT's just a hair behind '04 Cobras in the 0-60, why don't more guys that drag race thier cars do this swap ?

i would be very interested to know what it would cost/take to install out of curiosity.

I do not believe that the gear change is just for th launch. As Walt D stated in rgards to interstate driving, with a higher reving motor putting your self in an rpm band that suites the motor even more can only help the over all driving experience.
I understand the traction issues, but the car is a convertible and the track in West Palm Beach laughs at the 03 convt's in the tech line if you don't have a legit 4 point, welded in roll bar, "nothing less" as they stated. And that is when the car is in stock trim. So unfortunatly I can't run even if I wanted to.
Walt D you sound happy with the swap and thanks for the response.

The price of the swap various greatly. With the IRS cars the center unit has to be completely removed from the car. Steeda in Pompano Beach Fla. quoted me $325, but I've heard of prices north of $500.00. Shop around, and only use someone who has done it before.

the 05 is way more than a hair behind the 04 cobra, the new gts are closer to that of an 04 mach 1. I have yet to see one run in the 13's. I think motortrend got a ringer on their hands who did that 0-60 of like 5 sec. They claimed 4.8 sec with a manual, ya right haha,
anyway I have heard that 373 is the best gearing for the 03/04. That is as far as going down the track the fastest goes.

nothing at all wrong with 4.10's on an 01 cobra. besides you've got a 6 speed tranny so theres that extra overdrive that us 5 speed guys don't have.

The 05 GT makes around 100rwhp less stock than an 03/04 Cobra, and weighs about the same...nuff said.
