4.6l temp sensor for the cooing fan?

I am trying to do some cooling fan system diagnosis and I believe if I unplug the temp sensor for the fan it will come on in the high speed position, correct? Where is the sensor for the fan, is it the one on the top of the right front side of the engine, or is that one for the ecu or gauge? Is there another one someplace or is this the only one? Thanks for you help.

Unplugging the ECT sensor should make the cooling fan on high speed.

For the 1999-2004 model year there's a single ECT sensor that goes to the PCM. The PCM's "tells" the cluster dash gauge what to display.

Do you have an ODB2 scanner? If you did it might make short work of your trouble shooting. HOW? By giving access to what the PCM "thinks" the engine temperature is AND giving you the ability to "command" the cooling fan to run at either speed.
