Just about done with the entire re-wire. Painless manual kinda falls apart at the steering column. 1. No hazard switch in the early 64 2. Only seven wies coming out of the column Painless provides both a 2-wire connector and a six wire connector and tells you to hook'm both up. Now let's see 2+6 = 8, but there are only 7 wires out of the harness. Anybody done this or have the skinny?
I just got done installing the same kit in my 65. For the hazard switch, you can pick one of those up on ebay and it bolts right in. Just run those particular wires down to the lower left side of the dash, not the steering column. If you don't want to use it, you can just tape off the end of the wires. For the mystery 7th wire, I think that one has something to do with the horn setup. Depending on what you have (I installed a Hella horn set), you either have a "ground" horn setup or the positive feed horn setup. I think painless works with the ground horn setup. You'll know for sure when you fire up the test lead and your horn starts going off.
You know, the way people talked about these things, it sounded like I was going to have to plug my ears when I hit the horn because some bozo decided to merge his corolla into my new paint job. Well, it gets the job done, and they're perfect for where I mounted them, but I wouldn't say they bolted right in. And the German instructions could have been easier translated rather than my attempt at using Yahoo! Translate. I can post pics if you'd like.
Yes mine is intended to be grounding the horn relay in the original. I think I have figured out the horn wire. I think it is the Yellow Painless wire in the 6 pin connector. I cannot find any references to the yelloow rire in the painless instructions.
Colt--I'd like to see 'em. My horns are wimpy and I need to be heard. Did you swap out your existing horns?
