hi everyone... i'm not much of a mechanic but i'm gonna buy my land lady's 91 mustang lx convertible for $700 as my first project car (also gonna take some auto tech classes at community college). the car has a little < 100,000 miles and appears (to my untrained eye) to only need a new radiator and a paint job. how many miles can i reasonably expect to get out of this car?

my friend said this is the same engine in the pinto and that i should stay away from the 2.3... is this true?

    thanks in advance for info...

    alien.

Yes stay away from it so I can come to buy it!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting ready to push over 130,000 with no problems on my car. the 2.3 is bullet proof!!!!!!

    Very reliable car.

i think that your friend is crazy the 2.3 is a great engine it has no power but it will run forever i know that my dad had a 2.3 in his old ranger and it was right at 300k miles with only minor problems.

One word - BULLETPROOF! The 2.3 will last forever! My '89 ragtop has 140k and ran like a top, a slow top, until I yanked it last week to install my built shortblock. My '87 TC had 175k on it and ran great at 18 psi until I yanked it out also. And, oh yeah, the best part is summertime with the top down! You're gonna love it!!
