Hey, 2004 Mach 1...I use 93 premium octane. However, in the manual it says 87...but the manual doesnt specify for Machs! The manual is for v6, GT, mach, cobra, ect...I would imagine it should be 93 octane...but if the motor is tuned for 87....it will perform better with 87 regular octane....does anyone know what the motor is tuned for??

You'll use premium fuel. (91 or better)

and for a reminder, look on your instrument cluster, where it states "PREMIUM FUEL ONLY"

You should use 91 as a minimum. 93 is the only option here to that is what I use.

My buddy has been putting 87 in his mach since he got it. No problems. Why do you guys think 91 is minimum? Will the motor predetonate if you use less? I fully support using clean gas, but not to sure the motor needs the octane. Could be wrong tho, I'm just getting into machs, comming from a 65. Anybody know the compression ratio?

Your friend is a lucky guy then cause with 10:1 compression ratio, it should be pinging like crazy on 87 octane. Plus ford might not warranty your engine if it fails due to using anything but 91+. Trust me, they will know too.

Your buddy maybe ok (lucky) if he drive it like an old granny but if he get's on it and it starts to ping your looking at major engine troubles for what $3 more a tank? And talk about a performance difference, use 93 if you can 91 if you have to but never 87. He may as well trade it in for a de-tuned 05+ GT designed to run at that octane, only when they tune them like the Mach's to run on 91+ do they even come close.:nono:
