I was just wondering about performance. Are the engines w/o blowers comparable between the two cars? If a KB was put on the 96-99 Cobras, do the numbers come out about even? I was looking at it in the way of a poor man's 03-04. Of course there is the other attributes to the 03-04, like IRS and 6 spd tranny. Food for thought
Ive have a buddy that has a KB on his '01 Cobra. Its putting down some nice power..@470..But man the KB kits are expensive for an '01....
Yeah, just askin'. Im curious on power levels, which you answered. But still 470 hp for a 96-99 Cobra with a KB is pretty good. Im thinking 98 Cobra, 13k and a KB for 4k. 17k is still cheaper than about 25k.
The KB for the 96-98 Cobra's isn't intercooled and it's the smaller 1.5L version so it's only good for about 400rwhp max and no more than around 12psi...It's a fun street blower though...
this might have been asked before but on the cobras that SVT didnt supercharge stock, is it easy to buy a SVT brand charger off of like a wrecked cobra or something and put it on say a 99 and get the same gains as the 03-04?? Just wondering cuz I am looking at a 99 Cobra and was going to think about doin that upgrade. just let me know guys, thanks!
The 03-04 supercharger setup will work on a 99,01 cobra because they have the tumble port style heads. But its not as simple as just slapping it on there, you would need a 03-04 front cover, all the necessary brackets, crank pulley, coolant crossover tube, coolant tank, alternator, heat exchanger, etc... With a lot of the 03-04 guys going turbo you may get lucky and find someone selling off their setup, you in turn could sell your intake manifold.
I think that you would actually make a little more RWHP with a KB on an older cobra. The lack of an intercooler would suck but it work great 3 seasons a year. The KB is worlds better than an Eaton as well. No sense in retrofitting a stock 03-04 set up.
