So who would win this one. 1996 Cobra stock save for a pair of flows and a K&N vs 1993 T/A LT1 6 speed msd ignition, edlebrock headers, flowmaster muffler, no cats, ram air. I went for a ride in both and the cobra felt faster but i would have to get another ride from the t/a to really judge it. So who do you think would win?
It would be close. Personally, I have raced 3 trans ams. One when I was stock from 80-120mph in 4th gear, it was dead even. Second was a late 90's black 6spd with loudmouth exhaust and whatever else. I pulled on him hard in third. (xpipe and gears). And third, was at the track. Auto LT1 with really loud exhaust. Smoked the living crap out of him.
I would think its a driver's race with the edge to the LT1 due to more mods (especially headers and ditching the aweful manifolds). Just launch perfect, shift right, and hope he doesnt. Its very rare you get in a race where the driving is identical. Just be the better driver.
As much as I love Mustangs, the winner will be the driver, not the car. I would like to think that the Cobra would beat the early LT1, but with exhaust mods and a 6-speed, both of the cars should run low low 14's. Driver will win this race. good luck
