A/C Compressor stabilizer bar; Important?

I installed my Edelbrock 600 on my 67 yesterday, and it actually went quite well and works great! Only problem is I have leftover parts; there's a bar that runs from the compressor to the manifold that was right in the way of the new carb. There is NO room for it as it is now, so I left it off for now. The compressor seems to be held quite sturdily by the bracket attaching it to the block.
Does anyone now how vital this bar is? Is it just over-engineering or ?
I can look into modifying it or fabricating something else that will do the same job if necessary.

The A/C compressor might vibrate more now and over time the cast bracket to the head might fail. I myself would not run without this bracket. You could try an fabricate a new one that does fit somehow.
