While reading this months Motor Trend comparison with the GT500, the Z06, and the Viper, Motor Trend proclaimed the Shelby the bargain at ~$43,000. The problem is that number is not realistic right now. The article got me thinking that $43,000 is almost in my price range. I have only seen like one of these cars on the road (and I live in L.A.) so I know they are still pretty scarce. Does anyone have any insight as to if and/or when the price may fall back into MSRP territory? Any chance the price will drop below MSRP? My plan is to get one nice new muscle car, keep it stock, and keep it for years as a weekend driver. The GT500 would be an awesome choice if I could get one just under $40,000.

Maybe a 2009 model which is supposed to be the last year to be produced I would think. With a limited production run it will be harder to get anything under the msrp. IMO they are way over priced at 43k.

if you can get one at MSRP you are doing good. our local dealers are selling them for 16-20K over sticker, and people are paying it too...guess they have more money then sense...i just want an oppurtunity to get one at sticker price...then i will consider it very seriously...

Don't hold your breath. There are still too many rich people out there looking not for a car but a collector's item.

Just hang in their until the new Huricane V8 comes out. Then you'll be able to buy a used GT-500 for peanuts when all those "collectors" dump their GT-500s so they can buy new 500+ HP normally aspirated 6.2L Boss Mustangs.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and prices for the GT500 are out of sight. Our local Ford markup is $30K over MSRP. Even on ebay they are going for $20K over.

With the '07 being an anniversary model I'm sure we can expect the greasy slimebag dealerships to continue screwing the consumer right up the old wazoo! :nice:

Yep just like the GTs when they came out the dealers wanted $4000-$8000 over sticker....
I would wait till next year or the year after when you can get the car at INVOICE at the end of the year......Most will be waiting for Ford to put out their next generation of the Stang Gt,Just like noboby wanted the 2004 Mach 1 at the End of 2004....
I predict the Next Mustang GT will be the LASTTTTT one thats made in America....
I think Ford will be out of Business, since their stocks are rated as JUNKKKKK
Many people will be out of work and will be alot less Ford dealers.....
Most People don'r see the hand writing on the wall...SubwayTrainnnnn

i have called several dealers statewide (MI) and they are telling me they do not see the price dropping next summer (staying at $5-$15 over sticker). They believe the year after we can get them for MSRP and maybe below. I tend to think they are right but at the same time a variety of things could change their prediction. I am going to stop waiting and mod m stang out. I was hoping I could wait and get one this summer for sticker but I don't see that happening. Seeing that concept 2010 stang makes me not mind waiting for it anyway. I figure i can blow my stang and mod the suspension so it rides a little safer at speed in corners and get IRS in 2010 on the new one.

Just sit tight - dealers are the last group who'll tell you "Sure, the price'll drop next year. Keep your money for now, come back in six and offer me $20K less than I'm asking for today...". Most buyers being scared off by ADM's will fall into one of two categories - gone for something else, or stick with what they've got until prices fall. Neither of these groups are good for the ADM gang and reduce their market ("elsewhere's" are likely gone forever, "waiter's" have already shown the patience to out-wait the ADM's).

I've seen 1 GT500 on the road. Tip o' the cap if the guy got it for MSRP-ish, but likely one less sucka for the ADM lot to count on.

i don't know where most of you guys live, but there are several in our town alone, and they drive them, daily. i pass one most every morning on my way to work, i have even seen it sitting a parking lot at a local bar, not really a safe place if you ask me, but it's not mine. i know the ones sold in our area are from local dealers who said mostly doctors and lawyers have bought them, so the money was no issue for them, wished they would share the wealth...

Don't we think the Camaro and Challenger's (coming online next fall or winter) will have anything to do with the prices?

Right now it seems like dealers can charge what ever they want since there is no other alternative in town for the pony car market. I mean there is the sports car segment, but I mean a direct competitor like the Camaro or Challenger....

In early 2008, it'll be a better time to make your decision

Yea dealers can charge whatever they want but will they get it.
I would neverrrrr trust a car dealer about anything,99% will lie to you, they don't know what the truth is...
If you want to shop next year you should be able to find a 2008 Shelby at MSRP or even less...
Ford and GM are in very bad shape and maybe not the next stang but I am sure the ones after that will be made in Japan....I am sure GM will make all their cars in Japan in 2015 and so will ford.....................Subwaytrainnnnnn

I stopped at the dealer today. They had two Shelby GT 500's on the floor. The dealer had stuck a large "DEALER ADJUSTED" sticker on the car showing $70K:bs:

Even after watching the clip of Roush drivers flogging the Shelby AND seeing my first one on the road yesterday afternoon, there is no way in this world I would pay that much over MSRP just to say I have one(IF I had that kind of money in the first place)!!!!!

Sorry, you're right! '09 is the anniversary year so we'll see the anniversary models in mid '08. Unless the remaining '07's come down in price I still don't see any selling for MSRP for a very long time.
