My 06 is grinding occasionally when downshifting to 1st or going from reverse to 1st, unless you fully engage the clutch and wait a second before slipping it into 1st. Anyone else have this problem?

are you putting it in second, then moving to first? that seems to "clear" the tranny. they also dont like to go into first when moving. they say not to shift into first over 15 mph, but mine has a hard time going into first when moving, unless you REALLY want it to go there. as if you are going to floor it and go....

:D I've driven manual transmissions for thirty years now, both in cars and 18 wheelers. I'm fully aware of what you can and cannot do when downshifting. That's how I know that I've got somewhat of a problem with this one.:nice: It's never been easy to shift into 1st, but lately it's started the grinding. I just wondered if anyone else had the same problem. I'm going to check the fluid level today also and might try a bottle of Lucas trans treatment. Hopefully it's a fluid level or viscosity related problem and I won't have to trust it to a dealer to fix even though it should be covered under warantee.

I had this similar problem with 1st gear. I changed the fluid to Redline D4 and it has since stopped. I use redline in every tranny and diff.

I had this exact same problem last summer. I took it to the dealership and they replaced sycros under warantee, just had to give up my car for about 10 days for them to do it though :(
