AOD Question

I'm getting ready to buy a 91 GT, but has a messed up tranny (AOD), Question is will any Mustang AOD fit? Have heard before that some are different.A friend has one from an 87 that he is willing to give to me if it fits. To my understanding they should fit, just wanting to double check before I end up spending more money than I have to. Thanks

Yeah an AOD from any mustang will fit. Check out www.becontrols.com for a wealth of info on ford auto trannys. If you plan on modding the car I would look into putting a shift kit, and larger OD servo at a minumum. OD is the weak link in the AOD the larger servo give a better clamping force on the OD band thus making it last longer. I just fried OD in my 93 and am gonna end up doing a nice build up on it so.

I thought that I read somewhere the the early AODs weren't the greatest and if possible to choose a later model year. But if it the 87 is free then I would take it.

hey RYC, what do you need to overhaul your tranny. I think i just lost od my tranny won't go into od.
