Ok from what I know my car with a fiberglass hood weighs in at about 3000 lbs. It's a 89 notchback full interior thats stock. Now I have seen in some peoples sig that with just a few things like a exhaust, pullies, no a/c, and dr's this guy ran like a 13.6 at 101......Now I have been laughed at by my friend asking if i could hit a 13.9 with slicks. I understand that these motors are good for high 14's mostly stock but....with the help of some basic mods and some good tire arent 13's not that hard to reach? Ok I used to have a 05 GTO I was told mid 13's....I can drive plain and simple and the car went a 12.9 @110 with just a catback and still have the slip.. This guy on here has pullies, exhaust, no a/c, and dr's and ran a 13.5 at like 101 i think his sig said with the 3.08 in the rear...Now I know that has to be awsome driver but I know for a fact I already have the drivers mod.... What I'm getting at is if I take some more weight out of my car and do the basic mods with a great launch how can i not hit 13's....I'm just tired of being put down its not that big of a deal I just want to hear it form you guys rather than my cocky friend By the way I have only drove my car like 40 miles since I got it because of the weather here. The roads are dry but the car will not hook in first or 2nd gear from any roll, with that being said I can WOT shift into 3rd and they still spin...this is with 225 all seasons and I have 245's coming for the rear...How much improvement will I see from going from a 225 55 to a 245 50? I would think that a 2900 lb. car with about 210 rwhp and great driving would do the job just fine. I like to compare most to the srt-4's because they have a little more whp but are front wheel drive, i have seen them hit 13.9's bone stock plenty of times..with about 230 FWHP and no traction off the hit....Does what im saying make any sense or am i just plain retarted
Follow these cheap instructions a) Lose the spare tire b) Take out the air baffle in the fender behind the air box c) K&N panel filter d) Set TPS to .099 (just search 5.0 Tech or ask me how) e) Bypass the smog pump and or a/c compressor with a smaller belt (a/c via bypass bracket) f) Put an underdrive pulley on the crank and no where else g) By a $100 electric fan for a 94-95 Taurus (Search 5.0 Tech) h) Slicks i) Advance timing from 10 deg to 12-16 deg as long as it doesn't ping when lugging up hills j) You can ditch the front swaybar for the track, but it's usually over doing it for a daily driver k) Lower control arms That won't make it anywhere near as fast as the GTO, but your working with 80's technology You really need gears, then heads after that.
80's technology I like that, its true though. I know it won't be as fast as the Goat but college would not ket me keep it, I had to pay about $600 a month to keep it on the road and parts were insainely $$$$$, Long tube headers for the goat were like $1K!!!! I paid $550 for a used cat back with a bent hanger, new it cost $900!! Thats why I have a mustang now and they are easy as hell to fix/mod. I already took all the crap out of the back and im getting 50/50 virtical shocks, upper/lower control arms and a 3G alternator first. Than the other stuff you listed and over the summer I'm going to get a full exhaust..Should I be on my way to mid 13's? No AC, no smog, no cats, gut the rear, a 4:10 gear, pullies, a better intake, ect basic stuff. I'm getting a fully ported upper and lower intake in the next week for free
I'd say so EDIT: Let me re evaluate that... You REALLY need gears. Before exhaust or anything. The slicks alone are usually good for 2 tenths of a second, and if you throw a bag of ice on the intake until you're ready to run and in between runs, you'll shave off time that way too
Ok so you are saying I should switch out to a 4:10 before I get my exhaust done? Yeah I did old Ice trick on my goat, thats the pass i ran a 12.9 with no traction in 1 or 2nd and a ****ty 2.0 short time, i trapped 110, in that heavy car that should of been a mid 12 sec pass but it would not hook for **** with the stock tires and crappy IRS... How much gains should I see from a ported upper and lower intake on a mostly stock car? I love the fact that this car is so light compared to my old car and it's got a solid rear end...
The notches are def the fastest 5.0's in stock fashion. I've had every type. I would take that stock intake off and use it as a boat anchor and by a used Explorer intake or a new intake somewhere, Explorers require some modification- they just need the air temp sensor tapped into them or somewhere else... Also, if you're going to do that, by a MAF and a Throttle Body when you get the chance. 4.10's are pretty rough on the highway man... But I've known a lot of guys that ran them everyday. I'd go 3.73's personally
This car will not see the highway often, I mean it's not really a DD. I drive a 07 aveo for gas and insurance reasons....I get crap for driving it but I don't care. Another question about the gears, I have heard that if you run No2 you have the chance to run out of gear in 4th with 4:10's, what does 4th gear go to with 4:10's VS 3:73's? I'm not going to get a exploror intake because im getting a upper/lower that has already been ported for free!! Not sure what brand it is but it's free and better than stock, I'm going to take the money I would have spent on a new TB, EGR delet kit, and a larger MAF. Thats another thing I should of said, I have a NX wet kit sitting here next to me dieing to go to work. I'm not going all out but I will have a window switch, and what not to make sure I don't kill myself or the motor. I'm only going to jet it for a very small shot to give me about 35-50hp or so(stock pump/injectors)....The kit will no go into the car untill june/july so thats off in the futrue Another friend of mine said he has heard of this year notch going 13.9 with just tires back in the day when it would of been a fresh car, anyone else heard of this? Or is that getting my hopes way too high. I mean the car feels a lot faster than my friends 89 GT with a flowmaster cat back because I drove it and it would not spin em in 2nd...On mine their is no way it hooks in 1st or 2nd from any roll and it still spins going into 3rd..I don't know why, would the weight make that much of a difference? Lastly
