There is a squeak that seems to be coming from one of the idler pulleys (below and right of the crank) that is especially annoying at startup. It's hardly the sound expected from this car. It's new and under waranty, but my SVT dealership is a ways to drive for every little thing. Any suggestions or help would be apprciated!
You're not alone. Our car squeaked like crazy and we took it back to the dealer, and they installed a new belt. After that, the squeak is gone when the car is warmed up, but we still deal with a squeak for the first 5 minutes. It drives us nuts... I'll be interested if anyone has an idea of how to fix this. Does your car squeak all the time, or just when it's cold?
Seems like it is worse when it's cold, but it doesn't go away when warm. I have had people tell me it's the belt. When I really look close, I can see the belt traversing sideways across the pully (mentioned in first post) a tiny amount, but in cadence with the squeak... Also, my passenger window squeals something bloodcurdling when I "roll it up". I know these seem to not affect performance, but they can really bug me
Damn, we are in the same boat! Our window did that as well, and we had the dealer fix it, and it stopped for good. I'd tell the dealer to fix the belt squeak. I'm going to take ours back and have them keep it overnight, and start it in the morning so they can hear the belt sqeaking in the morning.
I forget the company name (It might be reichard racing) but they have a new idler assembly out that has less drag than stock and looks a lot better as well...it only costs like $50....might wanna check into it. I saw it in muscle mustangs magazine the other day
I replaced the idler pully and belt on my wife's car and 90% of the squeak went away. I think the other 10% is in the tensioner.
I think I'm going to let the dealer work on it first. I believe they owe me some warranty work. It's frustrating to take time to go for this kind of problem. I guess it could be worse...
I wonder if they're putting on the same shi#ty idler pulleys and tensioners as the 96-98's - which are notorious for squealing. peace
Hey Jet, Thanks for the tip, however I could find no TSB for this problem. I followed links for my car (03 Cobra) and didn't see it listed. I did see others... Am I dense, or is this TSB on another model?
I definitely agree with you there. The belt on my car still squeaks and I just had it replaced. I have pretty much the same problem this guy does with his '03. The squeaking on my car goes away after I drive it for a few miles, but it makes my car sound like a POS.
