i have stock brakes on my 87, and i have chrome rims, and i can clean the rims and polish them and within like 20 minutes of driving the front rims are covered in brake dust. The pads are new, but does this happen because they are cheap pads? Now i know it is obviously going to happen, it just seems excessive...i was thinking about getting the dust shields but im not sure about them. I kind of figured it was because they are cheap pads and not the expensive ones that have less dust. Any opinions?

Cheap pads do cause more dust. How much dust are you seeing?

i figured the cheap pads would do that. well the other day i washed the car and rims, and polished them, I drove for maybe an hour the front rims were not shiny any more lol. They were really covered in dust. It pisses me off because i put the time in polishing them and in a few minuted of driving, there is dust on them already. Thats why im thinking about the dust shields

they have a new polish that is supposed to be like a teflon type cleaner/polish that leaves a surface that is easy to clean...basicly a hose off will remove most brake dust.

yea i guess ill have to buy better pads. Ill have to try some of that polish. There was so much brake dust on these rims water wouldnt cut it, i had to hose them off the wash them with a sponge lol

get EBC Greenstuff brakepads no dust at all, little on the expensive side but I have friends who run them and say they work great.

Greenstuff pads I hear work well, as stated.

If youre looking for a product to use for quick wipedowns though, Meguiars Quick Wheel Detailer works like a charm!

I have cheap pads that accumlate dust on my chrome wheels too. I wax the wheels once in a while which seems to allow me to just wipe off the dust with a dry towel no problem.
