Building a new motor and am a little worried about the block. 1980 302 block punched .040 shooting for a conservative 300 to 350 horsepower possibly 400 with the right parts. Is this block worth using or should I find a stock bore Mexican block?

I would be a little worried about that particular block bored .040 over with 350-400HP.

Even a stock untouched 87+ block would be right at the limit with 400HP

Have the block sonic checked, and if the machine shop says the cylinders aren't too thin, the block will support 300-350 bell hp.

Honestly if the machine work is good i dont think youll have a problem. The weakness isnt necesarily the bore's but more the very weak main webbing.
