One of my good friends just traded his truck in on a 2000 Trans Am with only 22,000 miles on it. Its pretty much stock except for the Flowmaster. On top of that, it's not even the Ram Air and its not a 6 speed. Anyways, I raced him and he beat me the first time!! I couldn't believe it. We raced again and I didn't pull on him until 4th gear! It's hard to believe bc I've raced Ram Airs and SS's and there not to much of a problem. And on top of that, the other day I raced a Z28 with NOS and pulled on him more than my friends T/A. You can see the mods I have and my car is running fine. I just don't understand how my car can have 320 hp stock with all my mods and get beat by a stock T/A thats only putting out about 315 hp. Can anyone explain? Thanks
I own a 2001 trans am, and I can agree that they are underrated. The exhaust on the Fbodies isn’t that great, so just adding an exhaust could have gotten him another 20-ish horse. Ls1 fbodies also have the magical 3rd gear that pulls like a SOB.
yeah, it pulls pretty hard but i thought with my 320 stock with all those mods would spank him. I was just suprised
What kind of gears do they come stock with cuz i got 4:10's and he stayed with me the whole time!!! When i hit 4th, i pull pretty hard so i was thinking maybe the person before him put some 3:73's or something. What do you think?
Just a thought, but maybe more was done to the car than you know. One or two simple mods you or him dont know about can make a world of difference.
I can tell you that I got my headlights sucked out in my 97 Cobra convertible by a latemodel Z-28. It sounded stock except for the exhaust...........................but the way that he pulled me (even with an automatic....LOL) led me to believe that there might just be some giggle gas flowing.
3:43 gears i belive not sure. my friends 00Z28 M6 put down 316RWHP and 317 RWTQ bone stock. The LS1 is a very strong motor and like was already said way underrated. The 6 speeds are good for 13.0-13.3 at 106ish bone stock and the A4s just a bit slower at 103-104ish. And oh yeah they like the mods. This is my friends sig from LS1.com we grew up together he liked Fbods i like mustangs anyways here is the sig 1998 Navy Blue Metallic Camaro SS #2842 M6 Hardtop Engine Mods:T1 Cam (221/221, 558/558 112 lsa), ASP Pulley, NOS 5177 125 Dry Shot, TB Bypass, NGK TR6s,160 Powerstat Induction Mods: Bauer P/P TB, Carbon Fiber Lid, FRAM Exhaust Mods: Pacesetter LTs, FM 80 Series Muffler, Dual-Dual Megs Slick Tips, Cutout W/McCord PP2 Tranny Modsro 5.0, MBA Billet SS Knob, !CAGS, Z06 Clutch & Hydraulics Appearance Mods:Stull Billet Grill w/'67 SS Emblem, Indiglo Guages, Street Lethal Window Banner Suspension Mods:BMR STB, BMR PHR, Mac LCAs, Mac SFCs, RT TA, Chrome ZR1 17x9.5 & 17x11 w/Nitto 555Rs Rearend Mods:Superior 4.10s, Mac Rear Cover, T/A Stud Kit, Lingenfelter 3.5" DS 364 rwhp & 350 rwtq N/A; 450 rwhp & 488 rwtq 125 shot As you can see they respond well to mods
Ss Well I can only speak for racing an SS and well I knew I wasnt gonna take him. Was just that day talking to a friend with a 2002 stock Mustang GT and he had said that he hung with a SS. Well this guy was on my tail and I was giving my 96 Cobra all she had to give and he was basically telling me to get out of his way. Other than one Vette..an SS has bit me back-Shane
You gotta remember, Ford over rated HP while GM under rated. The LS-1 is actually up around 350 HP or better. Plus the ram air adds extra weight.
The trans ams and z28 ss are slow they won't race my tbird anymore because hey are tired of getting beatten. BTW my 4120# tbird with a few mods ran 12.92 at 107.60 This a 4.6 2 valve.
I had an '01 SS with SLP exhaust and lid with a 6 speed, the car with stock tires ran 12.90 @ 110. I don't personally think they are slow IMO.
They are like a box of chocolate. Some run 13.8s @ 100mph and some run 12.8s at 110mph stock (very rare). I've seen both. If anyone is looking at purchasing one you have to drive them. It's crazy how much variance there is.
Avg. LS1 TA/Camaro will be around 305-310rwhp stock. Some will be factory freaks and some will be turtles. So at the engine they're pushing 360hp-365hp compared to '01 Cobras pushing 320ish at the engine stock. Now stock '03 Cobras are above 420hp+ at the engine. and '03 Mach 1s are like 330 hp from the engine.
Well, since my post above I went to the track last Friday to run my stock 01 WS6. With no traction the car went 2.3 60' 13.41 @ 109.46 MPH.
To be honest when I was looking to move on from my '99 Supercharged Integra (no rice..sleeper) I test drove a 2001 Camaro SS auto. Now...this is by my but dyno, but I was not impressed at all. Took it for a test drive and I punched it from a dig, I was waiting for that gut sinking feeling when I took off but it never happened. I took a few turns and it just felt like a boat (especially when I was driving a little Kart). Went across the street to the Ford dealer and fell in love with this 2001 Black Cobra Coupe. Felt more kick, handled 100Xs better and looked way more sexier IMO. End of my story for what it's worth.
