I need a new alternator for the stang, so i go to my local advance auto to pick one up. The cashier looks it up and tells me that it'll be 260 somethin for the alternator and serpentine belt and thats with the core! Its nothin special just a regular old alt. and regular serp. belt. I thought that this was outrageous so my car still needs a belt and alt. did they do somethin wrong or is that what i'm gonna have to put down for a belt and alternator?

seems awful high to me. i had to buy and alt. not to long ago and i think it was around 100 give or take. But i know it was not no 250. I dont know how much a serpentine belt would be but definatly not that much.

I replaced my belt for like $38...I would call another Advanced Auto and see if they tell you the same thing...

just get it rebuilt - takes like a day or so if they don't have one to swap in stock, but will save you quite a bit of cash. If you buy it from a place like NAPA or a shop that does the actual rebuilding, you'll get a warrantee, so no worries that you're getting a junkyard part.
