I have a 1993 2.3L n/a automatic convertible. When I put the car into gear it stalls violently. It ran in park and neutral, but stalls in reverse or any drives. When in park and neutral i rev the engine, it will get to about 3200 rpm and then bounces back. Usually it idles smooth. Check engine light was on, checked for codes, came back with DIS problem. I replaced the ignition module, now the car will rev past 3200 rpm, and is smoother then before. But still when you put it into gear it jerks really hard and shuts off. Could this be the timing, torque convertor stuck, fuel pump, or what? I am at a loss, i haven't a clue. Please Help!
I don't know if this will help you at all, but the only thing that comes to my mind is vacuum, any lines disconnected by mistake or accident or rotted maybe. I drive a 93 2.3 N/A 'vert too. Mine is also down for the count, I'm hoping it is the fuel pump relay and not the pump. Someone on the forum can help you: their combined knowledge is formidable!
