CEL after installing x pipe

    I just installed a flowmaster two chamber and a bbk x-pipe on my 99 cobra I bought last week. I left for a business trip and left the cobra with the wife and she said the check engine light came on. I figured it is probably because the cats are gone. Is this a common occurance, what do you guys do to get rid of the light?

    Of course the light will come on if you don't have cats anymore...that's the primary function of the rear o2 sensors, to detect if the catalyst is working...Easiest way of getting it to go away is to get a set of MIL elminators from dallas mustang or a few other places...I got mine on Ebay for around $60...you can make your own too for a lot less than that, but the ones I bought just plug right into the OEM harness and it makes it nice and neat without having to splice wires and stuff...

    MIL eliminators suck........that is unless you want to replace them every six months.
    You need a custom program wiht the rear cat monitors turned OFF.

    I've got MIL eliminators on my truck (spliced two months ago) and car (connector over 1 yr ago).

    Both have worked flawlessly by preventing my check engine light po420 code. Super easy to install and a lot cheaper than a chip.

    will that fool the state inspection stations ,,when they pull into it ??will that make it show the rear 02 arent working ???because i have the same probelm,,with no cats ,,they wont look under the car if that plug in ,,and it passes just let me know thanks :flag:

    There's been a few cars here that have passed OBDII emissions using MIL elims on their o/r pipes...They simulate the rear O2's working so it's like the car has cats on it...

    Nonsense.

    MIL Elims (if properly installed, as with ANY part, get the job done). I've had mine (Ponyexpressperformance's MIL Elims) for almost two years & have never had a problem. :cheers:


    RE: The state inspection station question, missouri_guy197 is correct (provided they don't do an actual physical inspection under your vehicle for catalytic converters). :D

    Exactly! I have the same MILs and they have been on my car for well over a year and have never given me a problem. I live in Georgia and as far as inspections you will pass just fine as long as they are installed correctly. I drove up and out in 5 minutes and got my inspection papers without a hitch.
