Hoping someone can help me out here. I just got a new shifter knob for my GT 5-speed and went to put it on, only to find that I can't find a way to remove the original knob from the fabric that covers the shifter.

I got the shifter off, but I can't seem to seperate it from the black vinyl. Is it a process of just pulling them apart, cutting something, or do you need a new cover to attach to this?

Hope that makes sense and hoping someone can give me some info if you've changed your stock shifter knob

Nevermind.. sometimes you just need some elbow grease. I'll leave the thread in case any one else has the same issue.

I just used a flat head screwdriver and had to pry it out of the covering. Unlike my new once, which as two parts (noe from under and one for) this was just a one piece. Just pry it out a bit and it will pop out

With the stock knob, you firmly pull down on the shifter boot, and it pops off of the knob.
    Then the knob unscrews easily.
    No tools necessary.

I just unscrewed mine and it separated on it's own. Nothing was connected at all...
